Any suggestions for reducing tyre noise and improving ride comfort. Tyres are 205x45x 16. Turanzas on front and Dunlop SportMaxx on rear.

Yup, get rid of those noisy horrible Turanza's 

MiL swapped her 16s out with the dealer for a set of 15s. Much improved ride.

AS mentioned previously - the bridgestone turanza's are terribly noisy.

 

I have had the wretched things on my Fabia  on both front and rear, from new and even with 20K+ now on the clock - the rears are hardly worn BUT at last the fronts will soon be replaced. I shall be fitting Michelin CrossClimate to the front in early march.

 

In fairness the Turanzas have been no bother, have gripped well in both wet and dry conditions, it is the noise factor that lets them down dreadfully.

 

Sod's law is that when you find a tyre that you like, they dont seem to last. When you have a tyre you hate - the blasted things dont wear out !!!!!

I know that Fabiamk2SE had Turanza's, and changed to Good Year with favourable results.

OE Turanza were horribly noisy on our 1.2htp. And lethal on icy roads. Now have fitted vredestein quattrac 5 and is much more serene and softer ride.

Bung a blanket, piece of carpet or other sound deadening material under your spare wheel, the spare wheel well amplifies the rear wheel road noise.

For increased Ride comfort you really need to ditch 45 profile and fit a higher profile, but on 16 inch rims would require a skinny 185 50 16 tyre.

Stick to Skoda type approved sizes, a 15 inch rim will allow higher profiles and better ride comfort eg 195 55 15

If you change tyre sizes check with your insurance company first.

funny really,i put 15" wheels with 195 55 15 tyres on my fabia vrs,whilst having my original vrs  wheels refurbed,and to me it did'nt seem to make that much difference to ride quality.maybe i'll notice more when i put them back on!
