How do I know whether my car is on Annual or Variable servicing?

Featured Replies

Car is a 2013 vRS, 33,000 miles.

I recently had my car serviced at Progress Skoda Harlow - NEVER AGAIN!

I asked to have it converted from two-year servicing to annual.

When I picked it up, the Service Adviser told me it had been done.

When I asked what oil had been used he had not got a clue but pointed to some code on the invoice.

How do I know what oil was used and whether the car has been changed to annual servicing.

My reasons for dissatisfaction with Progress Skoda Harlow are that they do not reply to emails or 'phone calls; despite my asking them to identify which spark plug came from which cylinder and their promising that it would be done, they failed to do so and they really didn't seem to have a clue. Progress Skoda Harlow used to be Spirit Skoda Harlow until a few months ago.

Oh, and they forgot properly to connect up one of the plastic pipes in the engine, resulting in a light on the dash and necessitating my calling out the AA.

Welcome to the forum.

Put up code on the Invoice.

If they put in 5w 40 FS (VW502 00) that would be good, because it is better oil for your engine than 5w 30 FS Long Life for Variable servicing.

Look in the Menu on the car and go to servicing and see if it was reset to 9,400 miles / 372 days.

?

So did they change the spark plugs,

Put the code up for the parts as well.

?

How much did they charge for this servicing?

Oil. Filter, plug, Spark Plugs, was anything else replaced. Air or Pollen Filter?

3.6 Litres Oil,  how much a litre did they charge?

Oil was OAVS - correct level on dipstick (£54 + VAT)

How do I access the "Menu on the car"?

I supplied 4 x Denso SKJ20CR-A8 Spark Plugs.

Service was £320.72 including brake fluid change  (£8.22 + VAT), oil filter  (£8.57 + VAT) & pollen filter  (£14.73 + VAT) - no mention of air filter.

Oh yeah - and they forgot to fill in the service book which was lying on the back seat.

Sorry no idea what OAVS is but £15 a litre plus vat, ie £18 a litre is some very special oil, or they are charging for more than 3.6 litres,

i would want to ask what they are playing at.

Does it show 3.6 litres oil on the invoice?

Access the menu on the right hand stalk end,

hold it until the menu appears, go down through it.

Button on bottom of stalk when choosing.

Go to Service Information,  Do not Reset, just try and find it and then look at what is says.

?

Does anyone know what OAVS is in relation to the Oil supplied.   Guess from me is 'Oil approved for variable servicing'.

(other than Oil Air Vapour Separator i am clueless.)

I have now partially answered my question. Amongst the paperwork accompanying the invoice is a note saying that my next service is due in December 2017 or at 10,000 miles, whichever arrives earlier. It also says that the service carried out was a 20k service.

I would still like to know whether they used 5W/30 or 5W/40 oil - just in case.

At the price charged it would seem they have,

& if OAVS means Oil Approved Variable Servicing.

I would want to ask about the Oil Price and if they charged for the 3.6 litres required only, or some greater amount.

As it is the price is ridiculous.

Over charging for parts not used even oil means an extra 20% VAT charged and that is fraud because they never paid VAT on something they never bought or used.

Ask in writing what the cost was and oil used and get a reply from a Service Manager or Principal Manager.

I may have been ripped off and as suggested in my first post I will not be returning to Progress Skoda Harlow.

That isn't really the point going forward. What I am concerned about is knowing what oil was used, not the outrageous cost for it. It would have been nice to know which plug came from which cylinder. I am also puzzled that there is no mention on the invoice of any replacement air filter.

As to how much was allegedly used, i do know that the level on the dipstick after the service was correct.

ps - I will follow your suggestion of formally asking these questions in writing although how reliable any answer might be is debatable.

Ask them if there was a Software Update available and was it applied.

The Air Filter is not due for changing at your mileage, but then it should be checked to see if it needs because a dirty one does cause poor MPG.

As to the plugs did you get them back and does one look the worst for wear?

More sooty /oiled.

Has your car had the DSG Service Campaign work done if it was one that shows as needing it as a preventative measure.

Synthetic Oil changed to Mineral & a Software Update.  No cost to you.

Car has had DSG Service Campaign fix.

I am not aware that any other ECU patches were applied.

One plug was slightly oilier than the others, another was slightly blacker than the two that were very clean.
