vrs engine

Featured Replies

hello, just wondering, could anybody shed some light?i picked up a 2010 vrs fabia recently, which came with a receipt for a "complete new engine" fitted by a skoda dealer in the middle of 2013 due to oil consumption issues.also listed was new breather parts, which presumably would be for the modified one.would the new engine that's been fitted be a cave,or the cthe? also, there was no mention of a software update.do you think this would have been done? if not, would it be a good idea to have the update done? thanks for any advice you may be able to give.

Maybe you could share your reg and see if it was any members previous car? Would definitely answer any questions your have for it.

The engine will be a CAVE unless there is a new ECU also fitted.

It is unlikely to have the New Oil Spray Jets fitted if the engine was fitted in 2013.

Just ask Skoda UK Customer Services to tell you all the information they have on what was fitted and when and do not accept them saying for Data Protection they can not tell.

They can and they must as you are the one that owns it, they modified it and you insure it and are the one that buys parts if ever needed.

Maybe worth buying a Skoda Warranty if you do not have one, at least a years worth of warranty.

thanks for the replies. the reg is CA10 TXT. i've never experienced such a weird inconsistent reading dipstick in a car before, makes me wonder if half the oil use problems are caused by overfilling ? anyway, great little car, reminds me a bit of the old days, running oil guzzling lotus cortinas, that always needed attention!

For now check the dip stick when cold oil.

Car on flat. stone cold,  the oil should be above the cross hatch just, between top of cross hatch and orange marker above.

Open the drivers door, start the engine, stop right away, just start stop.  the oil will be below the top of the cross hatch,

(oil just went up to head and filter.)

One you have driven at least 10 miles even in winter the oil should be at a operating temperature.

It might still be below 80*oC indicated,

If you do a hot dip then that is 'The Hot Check'.

Try that and see if the hot level is the same as the one where you started and then stopped the cold engine.

DO NOT OVER FILL,  MANY DEALERSHIPS DO, AS DO OWNERS.

PS.

Maybe an idea if you are running the twincharger engine with 5W 30 FS Long Life Oil. (VW 504 00)

Next time you change the oil & filter use 5W 40 FS (VW 502 00) and change it every 10,000 miles or sooner.

?

Has the DSG had the Service Campaign work done to change the Synthetic Oil to Mineral & a Software Update done.

Gets done free but never started until 2014, so after the engine change.

There should be a sticker in the boot showing it as done if your car was one that was part of the Service Campaign, likely it was.

thanks, for that offski,i will give the dealer a ring tomorrow, see if they will give me any info.i have actually just refilled the engine with 5w 40  oil,so i will see what how that goes.can you recommend a good oil filter?

I like MAHLE Oil filter that cost less than £4 at a motor factors.

The Original VW / Audi Oil filters were Black, then they changed them for the 1.4TSI and they are silver and supposedly cleaner to remove,

i like the ones i have used for a few years now and with 5w 40 oil have had cars that were using oil stopping using it.

I now put in 4 litres not 3.6 litres, but i am not recommending doing that, just being honest on what i find works.
