cruise control issue

Featured Replies

Right, I'm a bit confused. Thanks for Mikeholroyd's help yet again what a helpful man you are.

As it looked like i had all the correct equipment to fit CC i thought I'd buy the stalk and Mike kindly offered to code the car for me. However, thanks to snow and some grotty weather in Whitby my visit to Mike got cancelled. So, phoned my vag mechanic to see if he would code it for me which he said he would. Went this morning but the car will not activate cruise. He ticked the box, went to exit and an error message pops up something like ' equipment does not support cruise control' or words to that effect. Now when the lap top was hooked up you could see the switch on the stalk was working as it was changing accel decel off on etc. It's an aftermarket switch not genuine vag so thought it might have been due to that. He did mention wires to the ecu but I'm told my car doesn't need it. Now, one possible idea could be due to the car having a Revo map. As the CC is in engine section I'm wondering if the map has locked the ecu ? Any help would be great.

Managed to get the cruse control to work on  my old hatchback. The dealership couldnt do it but i did! :notme:  The car did have the ecu changed at some stage before I got the car.

Found it? Is it a secret!!

Not sure about what code was entered. So 11463 is activating CC? Is there any other coding to change if that doesn't work?

Don't hold me to it but think it's in something like multifunction.

Does your steering controller definitely support cruise?

Does your steering controller definitely support cruise?

Not too sure. It's a midline controller. 1K0 953 549 BC is the p/n. Not even certain this wire from controller is there. He might not have coded the controller in. I didn't watch what he was doing. That currently is 0000012. It might be more clearer tomorrow but the coding I'm stumped with atm.

I have a funny feeling that that one comes with three different software versions, only one of which supports cruise. Do you have a full scan of that controller? Have a look on the rosstech tech wiki for that controller and cruise.

I think so yes. Mike H scanned it for me. If it helps in any way i can post it up. There is an asterisk attached to that controller. It said something like may or may not support CC depending on hardware? I'll hopefully update tomorrow but it obviously depends on wether the controller has been coded.

Yes, stick the relevant bit of the autoscan up.

Not sure if that helps at all. This scan was done before today though so the coding for the controller might have been changed.

It's the component line that's important, the 036 0070 bit.

Ok. So do you know if that is supportive of CC or will ross tech tell me?

  • Author

According to this you should be OK

Remember you need to code the steering controller and the engine controller too.

Well Mike will!! I've honestly no clue tbh. Like I've mentioned, i didn't see what the bloke was doing today. He might just have been trying the tick box thing to activate cruise without coding the controller. I will add here though, I've used him for a long time and he knows his stuff. However, he might not have done much in the way of adding/coding extra equipment.

Had a look at the car in question this morning, and it coded in straight away on the very first attempt. No idea what the VAG specialist was trying to do, as it is simply a case of swapping the steering column control module from 0000012 to 0000042 to tell it the cruise switch is fitted, then opening the engine control module and ticking one box for cruise control.

One point I did read about was that after the steering column controller had been reprogrammed, the car needed to go through a cycle of ignition off, doors locked, wait a few seconds, doors unlocked, ignition on and only then code the engine module. Whether or not that is the case I dunno, but it certainly worked this morning, and the car now has fully working cruise with a cruise control warning light as well.

Great to meet up again this morning Ian, hope you and Emily enjoy your Whitby fish and chips whilst you're over here! Thank you for your trust and confidence in me, making a long journey over here worth it, much appreciated.

Mike

After any coding I always lock and unlock the car. Tried it without doing it and weird things can happen.

Oh I've been having a mid life crisis for 20years!! Can't see an end to it tbh!! Kim's looking a lot better than when i last seen her. As far as today goes, yes went very smoothly I'm happy the controller didn't need to be changed that would've took a while. Apologies for leaving soon anyway Mike if i hadn't been on nights tonight i wouldn't have been so rude!! Lovely to see you both and big thanks again.

.Kim wouldn't let me have one when I bought the TSI, said I was having a mid life crisis when I told her I wanted one............

Mike

Hey Mike, there's nothing wrong with a mid-life crisis, trust me, I enjoyed mine (still do)

I'm in the doghouse, she's just caught me on autotrader looking at VRS's.................

Oh hell!! Don't get caught looking. Once you've bought she's sort of stuck really............. Unless she packs her bags...... or yours!! That's a calculated risk that only you can decide on!!
