DOOR LOCK

Featured Replies

Hi guys, my passenger rear door lock was deadlocked and wouldn't open from inside or outside so i removed the old locking mechanism, and fitted a new one... Now my problem is this: once the new lock was fitted, the door opened from both the inside and the outside of the car, i opened and closed the door around 20 times. I then shut the door and locked it. when i unlocked it again the button goes up and you can hear the lock working, but the door wont open from neither the inside or the outside, anyone have a clue whats wrong?? the car is a petrol 52 plate octavia ambience

ok so iv found the problem...when i push on the outside door handle and operate the central locking the door will open so im guessing the lever on the lock isnt fully returning, therefore not releasing the deadlock... adjustments to follow :)

Any joy ? I went about replacing my front pax mechanism today only to discover the one I got from the scrappiest is different (6 pin instead of 8). I hadn't actually removed mine only loosened off and unplugged. Now I have the dead lock issue that will only open with a thump ! Tried adjusting mechanism and door staple but to no avail.

No adjustment made any difference ! Decided to unplug electrically until I get new mechanism, door now deadlocked and disconnected !! Guess it's rip the door card off time !

Got the door card off , reconnected mechanism and got door open. Everything seems to operate as advertised but it won't open from either handle ?

Are the mk1 and mk2 mechanisms different ?

Cheers. Picking one up tomorrow from a guy who's breaking a mk 1, confirmed 8 pin this time !

So got replacement unit. Interior lights etc now work , handle operates perfectly until the car locks then the dead lock stays on still ? Opens when hitting the door and press central locking ? At a loss now to say the least !

Check the wiring in the rubber baffles between door and pillar. They have a tendacy to snap inside it. Just as a heads up you can get new door locks from ebay for £26 delivered with a 12 month warrenty, I have 3 on my car for over 3 years now, and are fine. Here are the links to all 4.

Fixed ! I played about with the adjustment of the external handle cable and used the double press of the lock button on the fob and hey presto it works every time now, dead lock and all ! Yeah I knew about the new ones but as there was one being broken locally I thought I'd try my luck with it ! Now just the de-mist button light to sort and that's her 100% !

will the door open if u PUSH on the outside handle and unlock using the fob? its what i had to do.. the problem was the catch on the lock wasnt fully returning so the deadlock wouldnt release ( the catch has to go thro full range of motion) to fix, get door open, theres a small grommit by the lock, remove it and using a star drive, loosen the screw behind it, now remove the plastic cover on the outer door handle to reveal the cable, unclip cable, adjust it and clip back, tighten screw with star drive and replace grommit. I then tested it without closing the door (use a screwdriver in the lock) in case it didnt open lol

Yeah, I tested it with a screwdriver but it still deadlocked when I closed it, but as above post I've got it sorted now. It was the cable needing adjusted.

  • 1 month later...

I have Skoda Octavia and passenger door is stuck. Cannot open with fob or manually or both together as suggested above.  This is a second car (first is newer Octavia) so I could operate with door opening manually.

Is there any way I could disable the central locking and put the passenger door on Manual opening from inside and out , with locking from inside, and have the other doors on central locking.

I tried that with mine but it deadlocked, but that may have been as I had the mechanism disconnected. Remove the door card and unplug the the mechanism electrically. In theory you should be able to open and close with handles and lock/unlock from inside. But your first hurdle will be getting the door open in the first place by the sounds of it !
