rear pads - 2006 2.0 TDi

Featured Replies

Bought brake pads as specified for 2006 2.0Tdi, but on taking the old ones off, it's clear that the pads, (and calliper) are totally different from that which have been sent through. Any thoughts on part no. I need to go for?

To be fair to Euro car parts, they've sent the ones that my reg suggests should be on the car.

Thanks, will look this up. Just wondered if it's common to have different parts on than the euro car parts would point you too?

Had a Capri many many years ago, and I think that was made from many part bins as it went along the line. Always had to take the old part in to get a match!

Yes it is quite common for ecp to bring up multi parts from your reg, best to match the pad from the pictures.

ECP have two computer systems, the main one (which includes the website search) is a bit vague and often gives a choice of parts, or just the wrong one. If you ring them they can check the other system which cross checks against VAG.

I have been burned so many times by ECP. I always use places that are local now so I can go swap them once I have a car in bits if they end up being wrong.

Some car manufacturers have an insane amount of different pads for the same car and engine depending on year etc. They don't make it easy for places that sell parts at all.

Checked and 101441178 are exactly the right pads.

Just checking before I go ahead and order on whether there's any known work-around to push the calliper piston back? It wasn't an issue for me yesterday as I was putting the old pads back on, but I did try to push the piston back with a G-clamp arrangement I've used on other cars; but it didn’t budge. How do people push it back, or do I need to get a proper 'pusher'? I ask as if I need to buy a proper tool, then it might be worth paying someone else to do it.

The rear callipers are threaded for the hand brake so will need to be wound back with a proper tool, plenty of them available pretty cheaply on the bay of e

Right pads now with me. Just wondered if there's a specific tool I could compare this comprehensive piece of kit with. Ie something more sub £10?

Just eBay brake caliper rewind tool, plenty of kits on there for sub £12

This is the rewind tool I have and that works fine with the Octavia brakes:

So just get something that looks like that. You don't need all the different size bits etc. Used this on my Seat Cordoba too.

I didn't pay anywhere near this for mine though. I'm sure it was £13 from my local parts shop.
