Long shot but is there a way of recovering overwritten files on am SD card? My dashcam overwrote some files that would have been useful. Not holding out much hope. But thought I'd ask!

Chances are slim tbh but depends how long you've continued to use the card after the files you want were deleted.

 

If you use something like Recuva to do a raw scan you'll get some indication of what is left and what state they are in.

Depending on the size of the drive it could take a very long time.

 

If the reason for wanting them back is very serious you could pay a digital forensic firm to try to recover them. But that would be hundreds of pounds if not thousands.

Far as I know pretty much once the data is overwritten they are lost.

 

What might save you is if the header for the file is the only overwritten bit. The remaining data might still be there undamaged but without the information to properly describe it to the system.
