TPMS

Featured Replies

We have a brand new scout 184 purchased on a PCH. I want to swap the wheels for 2 reasons.

1- the wheels that come fitted are like a mouthful of broken teeth. No symmetry at all.

2- because the car is on a PCH it would be nice to hand the car back with original wheels in perfect condition, avoiding any damage charges.

HOWEVER. If I swap the wheels, will this affect the tyre pressure monitoring system and throw any error codes that the dealer could maybe see when we return the car? Am I over-thinking things and just go ahead and swap them?

There are no sensors on the wheels. Just swap with whatever you want, reset the TPMS in the infotainment and away you go.

Cool. Thanks. Just the answer I was hoping for... :)

The TPMS uses the abs sensors to calculate if a tyre is deflated.

Just get the same size of wheel and tyre to ensure no issues.

Www.mytyres.co.uk do alloys and tyre packages delivered from £600.

Actually, you could potentially fit 24" wheels and tyres (of course they wouldn't physically fit), reset the TPMS and carry on without any warnings. (As SC03OTT said basically :D)

My point is, contrary to the advice above, the system uses values stored/learnt from when it is reset, then detects a change in rotation speed as a tyre deflates, regardless of the wheel/tyre sizes fitted. Otherwise, it would set off a warning if front and rear pressures weren't equal, for example, as the rotation speeds would differ.

Speedometer accuracy is a totally different thing however.

That also applies to the TPMS itself, as discussed in other threads on the subject
