1.6TDi oil filter location?

Featured Replies

Hi all, just a quick enquiry, can anyone tell me the exact location of the oil filter on a 2016 1.6TDi dsg? Had the car from new, just had my first 10k service at the dealer. Wanting to do an interim oil and filter between services as I'm looking to keep this car for a while, but having had a (quick) look for the filter,I can't see it. Anyone know its location? I'm guessing it might be on the back of the block?

Thanks for any replies????

Whoops! Double post! Sorry!

The filter housing is reachable from the top of the engine. Remove the engine cover and look down the right hand side of the inlet manifold you should see the top of the plastic housing with a 32mm hex nut on the top. You will need to remove the metal bracket with the small actuator attached to the engine top cover (Torx 30 bit) to give yourself some more room to get the filter out. It will still be a bit of a fiddle but remember the rubber pipes can bend!

Hope that helps you.

It's on the underside of the manifold on the mk3. You'll have to remove the undertray and it's at the front, towards the gearbox end. A 13mm removes the drain plug and a 32mm to remove the housing.

Hi guys, many thanks for your replies:). Doesn't sound too difficult. I used to be on the spanner's many years ago,so should be able to sort it without too much bother:). Thanks again for your time.

Hi James,  Please see pics. So we are back to the days of "Flat-on-your-Back " again. ( if you don't have access to a lift :crying: )  I guess that this is the oil filter on the MK3?  It's the 32mm socket size, so it fit's the bill. I am using a tommy bar to loosen the nut, and for sure it's a tight 'un !!!  What's the total qty of oil needed? ( inc. filter) ?  Will 4.5 Ltrs be enough?. I'm using Castrol Edge Titanium FST 5w-30 Fully Synthetic.

Thanks again for your help, it's much appreciated.

Jim

BTW: The Sump stud is a 19mm.
