Mk1 vrs starting trouble

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new on this forum & could do with some help please???? I've just bought a 53 plate vrs and got told it needed a camshaft sensor. I've replaced that but it is coming up with a camshaft signal problem, permanent, on a reader????? The engine turns over but will not start straight away, only after a few attempts????? Runs ok with a slight hesitation once going. I've sprayed /cleaned connections and still nothing. I thought it maybe something else????? Thanks G.

if you have read the codes and it points to camshaft sensor.

either the sensor itself is still faulty or the wiring is damaged.

id think it wouldnt start at all if it has no reading from the sensor.

Hi,thanks for replying. Hi have looked at wiring ,& looks ok but as you said, it shouldn't run at all with a wiring fault??? Maybe a faulty sensor???? Or coincidence and it's something else??? Any ideas?????? Thanks G.

as i said it shouldnt start if it has no signal from cam sensor, the fact it turns over a lot before starting may indicate an intermitant signal from the sensor.

if the code is the sensor and you cant see any faults with the wiring the first thing i would do is get another cam sensor, possibly make sure its an oem skoda one and not a cheapy non original version.

I'm going to order 1 from skoda tomorrow morning,it is a lucus camshaft sensor but not a genuine 1. It said exactly that on the reader  & so fingers crossed it's just that Hopefully sort out the hesitation aswell, would make sense ??Thanks for help, will give you an update when fitted?? G.
