P1296 Code - Hot Start issue?

Featured Replies

I have already searched the forums on this one (google is wonderfully helpful sometimes) and come back with the usual Green sensor/thermostat fault - however, they all seem to relate to cold start issues, mine came about on a hot start?

Background, driving normally, no other issues, looking for an address last night to drop a phone off. Found the place, parked up, stopped engine. Took care of business, got back in car and it wouldn't fire. Tried again, and it started, but spluttered, almost as if the throttle wasn't connected to the throttle body - no response from inputs type of thing. Anyway, carried on our journey, and it has been fine ever since. Did get the P1296 code when I scanned it (no lights on dash) which as we are all aware, relate to either the temp sensor or the thermostat. I,m pretty sure it's not the stat, as the car warms up perfectly fine, and temp sits bang in the middle of the gauge.

Has anyone had hot start issues with this sensor? Or should I be looking elsewhere for the issue (if it re occurs of course)?

Do you have access to VCDS to see what reading the CTS is actually reporting to the ECU rather than the gauge?.

When was the fuel filter last changed?.

Didn't really get too far into it last night (it was nearly 1 am when we got home) so will be plugging it back in lunchtime and see if Torque pro will bring any readings up. I do have VCDS lite on my laptop, not had a play with it yet though.

Fuel filter - no idea to be fair, I do have a new one in the shed ready to go on when we get a dry spell. Not had any issues with starting until last night - hot or cold. Will see what scans I can do lunchtime with torque, may shed some light on things.

Hmmm, ran torque on the way home monitoring sensor temp, all appeared OK. Warmed up gradually, settled between 85/90 deg, fluctuating slightly as i would expect. Have got a new sensor, so will fit that anyway now, will also run another log file tomorrow morning on the way to work.

Think the sensor may well be the culprit - erroneous reading this morning on the log from Torque of -39 deg C

Get an original sensor. :)
