Mk1 fabia vrs overheating

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a mk1 fabia vrs. It has recently developed a tendency to overheat. The car will drive fine sitting at 90 degrees for a while but one you push the car it will start to overheat, timing belt and water pump were replaced 10,000 miles ago and just had a thermostat fitted to see if that would rectify the problem but it doesn't seem to have worked. The car is only blowing cold air no matter what the temperature and holding pressure in the coolant bottle. Is this likely to be the head gasket or something completely different?

Reads like h/g plus airlock.

Sounds like a badly leaking gasket,or worse still a crack somewhere.

The usual head lift these get doesn't normally cause overheating,it pressurises the coolant though

I thought they were a self bleeding system?

HG fo' sho.

It's not impossible for a new(ish) water pump to fail. I think HG is more likely, but it's worth doing a gas test on the coolant to decide which.
