DSG gearbox fault

Featured Replies

I have a 56 plate 2.0l diesel with 6 speed DSG gearbox my problem is when in drive it is taking till around 3000 rpm to change gear from 3rd gear upwards, I have recently noticed the abs warning and traction control warning lights coming on occasionally, and when they are on the gearbox acts normal changing around 2000 rpm

may be a daft ask but you do not have it in "sport" mode?

Has it had oil and filter changes at each 40k miles?

Look for someone near you with VCDS to run a full scan. Any error codes?

They are quite hard to get a solid diagnosis on forums.

Not your car but the transmission is a 6SP DSG.

They have oil that requires changing at a set interval as well as their own oil filter that should be changed at the same time. If there is no service record it may not have been done at all.

When I used to pay VW Dealers to get my Mk5 Golf GT serviced, they did not even flag that it needed doing it was up to me to ask!!

What is the mileage at?

OK, so  it "should" have already had two DSG oil and filter changes at least. One in the last 10k miles if going by mileage limits. But has it?  Contaminants in the oil will not be good for the precision low tolerance parts, which is why interval is edit: set  at 40k miles.

As to whether that is actually causing or has caused your problem - I don't know. I suspect the dealer will start with a code read, if that is ok, perform DSG oil and filter change, that will be £180 in addition to anything else you are having done.  They could also do a DSG reset / calibration at modest cost, before the costs get somewhat more scary.

If fault codes are generated they will go from there.

The 6Sp DSG are normally regarded as fairly reliable. It does depend on schedule maintenance and driving characteristics as well as vehicle in service conditions though.

As you say, someone may come back having experienced same symptoms and outcome.
