VRS Catalytic Converter Advice

Featured Replies

My cat has broken up on my Vrs so looking to replace it, ideally as cheap as possible as I'm short of funds at the mo!

Thinking of possibly going the 2.5 downpipe + sports cat route while I'm at it but not sure how cheaply I can do it and what the options are?

Alternatively I buy a used oem one and hope it lasts or buy a cheap standard size one?

Ive seen this on eBay but not 100% sure it will fit as it says it's for the AGU engine?

I've also seen this all in one 2.5 with sports cat, but I think it might have problems with clearance?

Any advice would be most welcome, thanks

I'm in the same boat and am also looking to purchase sport cat down pipe - however I cannot understand why the second link that you've provided won't fit my 2002 mk1 vrs

From what I've read there could be a clearance issue because it doesn't have the same bend between the cat and the flexi section that the stock pipe does! I've definitely heard at least two people mention it can knock as they pull away!

My cats seriously rattling now so I need one urgently but can't afford to spend silly money on a sports cat setup at the moment so I may just settle for the first one for the time being? I could spend the same on a 2nd hand stock pipe which will probably be better quality but god knows how long that one will last?

Be aware that plenty of people have had problems in the past getting through the emissions test with a sport cat.

Its still the route I'd go though, personally.

I'm tempted to just get a cheap standard size one off eBay for the time being.

The problem is there seems to be two types; one looks like it almost has two cats with an o2 sensor between them and the other has the one cat with the sensor after it!

The one with 2 cats looks the most like the stock one but it's more expensive!

Heres the 2 I was looking at;

2nd one looks about right.  The Octavia doesnt have 2 cats.

Thanks, that's the one I ended up going for in the end, I'll report back once it's fitted.
