a few issues currently

Featured Replies

hello all,

i have had a little search but nothing really came up, so i would like to ask a few questions.

i have a 2001 octavia 1.9tdi. i bought this 2 weeks ago but i have a few issues.

1. the engine temp on the car hardly ever gets above 70oC on dash, but when i stop my heater only blowes cold or lukewarm air, whatcould be the issue.

2. my interior lights dont work with my front doors, boot and rears are fine i got a warning on the dash but nothing from my front doors, i cant seem to find a switch on the door. where is it located and how can i test it.

thanks guys

1.  Probably an air lock, low coolant or blocked matrix.

2. From what I have read its the micro switch in the door.

See this thread

1. Could be the thermostat as well

2. As above - it'll be the door lock mechanisms themselves. You can get replacements for under £20 on eBay, a few people from here have fitted them I believe.

Would also punt at the thermostat, but could also be weak waterpump, when was the cambelt last done?, did it have a pump at that time?

£450 sounds a bit steep.

@Gazman1011

For the effort, a 20quid lock mech change is alot easier than the microswitch replacement.

also... depending on how youre feeling, could be worth taking the time just changing them all. Why?

preventative maintenance.. if a m/switch is failing, odds of you having the follow up deadlocking issue on another door is heightened. Its an age issue :D

Oh... and yeah, 450bobs for a belt change seems a little ott...

@vrsTom @mac11irl how much should I be looking at then. Guy said it's a 5 hour job atleast

I got my lock frm ebay, 30€ delivered from china. Took a while to arrive, but was perfect.

Biggest trick when doing it is making sure to count how many threads are exposed on the outer door pull cable before you remove. Being off by 1 can mean the latch wont release when you pull the handle.

I wont give a cost as im in a different country, but my last one was €450 for the belt pump and a general service in a main dealer...
