Which wire to use to switch accessories off when key removed - Mk2 Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi all, hoping someone can help. I'm hard wiring a handsfree kit into my 2008 Fabia Tdi - plan being:

Constant live from fuse box (separate fuse) to relay

Earth the relay

Connect power for handsfree kit to relay

Then I thought I'd just tap into the necessary wire from behind the stereo to switch the relay meaning the kit would switch off when I pulled the key out.

However, as people in the know will have predicted, despite prodding everything with my multimeter I can't find such a wire behind the stereo :(

Can anyone tell me whether there is such a wire and where it is, or am I wasting my time..?

Thanks :)

I think the stereo only has permanent lives, it's turned on/off via CAN-bus.

You can either buy a CAN-bus adaptor of take a feed from the fusebox. You should be able to find a suitable source with a multimeter pretty easily :)

Ah OK, thanks for the reply, I don't want to be buying anything more so I'll just take an ignition live from the fuse box.

The reason I didn't want to do this is because all the ign lives on the fuse box switch off when you turn the key, not when you pull it out, which means if you are mid conversation when you stop unless you remember not to turn the key all the way the hands free kit will switch off :(

I think it depends on which bluetooth kit you install.

If I remember from my old parrot, that would stay active while I was on a call and I turned off the engine. You need to make sure it's fitted properly with both a permanent and switched live connected the right way round.

It's just a cheap one that runs off a USB adaptor in a cig lighter socket, so it will switch off once power is cut, ie when you turn the key off. Not to worry, once engine is off you can hold the phone anyway :p
