Need help with troubleshooting my Octavia..

Featured Replies

I need your expertise since I'm not sure what to do next with my car..

The car is an Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI 2010 and it passed 100000km today.

One week ago i had a flat battery when i got to the car, after jumpstarting the car i noticed that the radiator fans started to run about 10-20s after i turned the ignition off.

The flat battery happend the day after i washed the car.

My quick fix to this was to simply disconnect the radiator fans since i need the car to get to work and the temperature is anyway around 0degrees, so overheating will not be an issue.

The car ran fine for the past week.

Today i started to do some troubleshooting and  tried some advice that i received in my previous thread, pushing/removing the relays under the hood in the fusebox and reconnecting the fan.

At first the fan did not start, so i thought i had fixed the problem.

However on my way back from the garage the EPC light came on for a brief moment, i had barely time to see it, at the same time the car lost power and my cruise control was aborted.

After that short hickup i double checked that the battery was tight, which it was.

On my way home i went to the grocery store and to prevent the car from draining the battery i removed both relays located under the hood, according to another member here the relays should be responsible for the fan.

However when i came back to the car, the radiator fans where spinning at full blast, which had drained the car battery again..

Luckily i had my jump starter with me..

On the way back to my appartment the car even started to run like **** once it was supposed to hit boost, almost like it was missfiring.

It ran fine if you slowly pressed the accelerator, if you however went full throttle the car just started jumping/dieing.

If i then let go of the gas it recovered just fine.

Once i parked the car i also noticed that it now was hard to start, i had to run it on the starter for about 2-5s to get it to start instead of it starting at once.

What i have done now is:

-Replaced battery with a brand new one

   -Changed nothing

- Switched places on both the 100-relays

   -Changed nothing

-Checked for water ingress in the fuse/relay box

  -Found nothing

Any advice?

Or just try to get it running and then run it off a cliff?

I did try to dissassemble the fusebox since someone said there could be moisture in the bottom of it, but i did not manage to remove the actual fusebox after removing all the screws..

Fuel supply issue comes to mind. This is purely a guess though.

What is the cars service history like??? And last fuel filter change?

Last serviced for 3000km ago.

To my knowledge it has never been replaced.

Should have fault code(s) logged, best to have it scanned and eliminate the guesswork.

The car ran like **** today but after leaving it idling for about 30minutes it ran fine for 2min and then it started performing poorly again. After 5min of idling it performed ok for 1-2min and then got back to jumping forward when pressing the throttle.

I then left the car idling for about 10 more minutes and then went for a longer drive and now the car seems to be running fine, did not notice the fan running on any of my 5 stops.

I did manage to remove the plastic bottom of the fuse box and i did find some moisture there.

I removed it and cleaned it properly, but this was done prior to any testing that was done today..

Lets just hope that the problems i had was related to the moisture in the fusebox and the reason for it acting up earlier today was because of some left over moisture..
