05 plate vrs will not start

Featured Replies

Need a bit of advice.. just got a 05 plate vrs tdi as a fixer up/project for Mrs. Bought as a non runner with "failed turbo".. description I got was car lost power then stopped. Was left parked up 3 weeks then worked fine til end of road the  lost all power again...

Now to me this doesn't sound like the turbo. No smoke for a start. Also a failed turbo wouldn't fix then pack up again...

I've brought it back and got the following codes when plugged in to vcds. I've cleared the codes and nothing else is coming up.... yet it still wont start.

If I crank it it briefly fires then dies straight out. If I pull the rocker breather off the inlet pipe and give it a sniff of brake cleaner it runs on brake cleaner then dies straight out like no fuel.. I've got fuel up to filter and out of it.

Now if I keep trying it it stops firing all together. The interestinh/confusing bit is if I pull the boost pipe off the inlet mani it nearly runs. It fires and sounds like it will run... Obviously it won't as the maf is not seeing any air etc. But it's definitely getting fuel.

Does anyone have any ideas. It sounds daft but it's almost as if the boost pipe is blocked  (it's not I can blow into it). Could a failed turbo cause these symptoms. Just after some guidance as I'm not a vag bloke lol

Codes I've got on vcds are:

01117

18009

19463

17911

18039

18040

I've cleared them all and nothing is coming back.

Yeah I'd figured most of them were from the flat battery other than cam sensor ..

None come back when trying to start it tho

They won't until the engine is running.
