Options for newSEL Drive car

Featured Replies

Just ordered a new SEL Drive, with some options. I can add or delete items for a few weeks until the dealer says the build is fixed, apparently about 3 weeks before the build date.

Thoughts please on the following.

1) Are the better speakers worth having, bearing in mind my hearing is not brilliant and I use hearing aids.

2) I often have to drive down tracks and occasionally am brushing the underside of the car where the track is rutted. What do you get in the current rough road package, and would it reduce the second hand value, as suggesting a lot of off road use which is not really the case? (I did rip the engine undertray off my Skoda Superb some years ago on a track when driving for work)

3 May need a towbar in the future so am tempted to order one from the factory, rather than adding one later with all the electrical issues, has anyone experienced a big hit in secondhand value with one fitted?

4)Is the KESSY worth having?

As an aside I test drove an automatic prior to ordering my new car; this had the stainless steel pedals fitted. I thought these were a bit slippery to use, particularly having walked through a puddle before getting in; one option I won't be considering.

I also thought about the optional Supersport steering wheel, but did not go with this after the test drive, which had this fitted, as I could see no advantage over the standard wheel apart from a perforated finish. It doesn't even have the paddle shift seen on other skodas for the dsg box, and was less comfortable to use.

Consensus on here is that the speaker upgrade isn't really necessary.  I would have thought the off road kit and possibly tow bar are a good investment for the type of use you describe.  No view on KESSY,  but what you've never had you probably won't miss.

If you read about the cost and multiple strife in the many towbar fitting threads it is an absolute no brainer to have the factory fittted one -half the price and should be problem free!

The speakers are reaonable as standard so only a marginal benefit.

Never tried the KESSY but it does appeal in theory.

Rough road package probably a good idea.

1/ Others have said the extra speakers are not worth the price.

2/ Rough Road Pack gives you a solid sumpguard and suspension guards. None of those parts are obvious so I doubt it would make any difference to the value later. The Yeti is a lot higher than a Superb!! Personally I've knocked mine a few times on some of the poor forest tracks locally, but you wouldn't know it. Even the plastic undershield on my old one (Non RRP) was surprisingly tough.

3/ From my own experience, order the tow bar from the factory!

4/ Personally, no.

1/ Yes they are better, BUT mine were free (Superb) and the ones in the Yeti are fine, so save your money

2/ RRP would be ideal for you I would have thought.

3/ Factory fit towbar every time, far too many people seem unable to code them correctly when retro-fitted, so save yourself the hassle.

4/ Yes it is very good, would I pay extra for it well on my Superb again it was included, on the Yeti we didn’t bother and I doubt I would pay extra for it either.

The flat bottomed wheel is probably available with DSG paddles as its the same wheel as fitted to the Octavia vRS and Superb SportLine, personally I prefer the perforated leather.
