First time writer, hope I'm doing this correctly. I'm considering  buying a 2012 118Tsi Yeti with about 65.000klms on the clock. I'm concerned about Timing Chain problems and how to know if the vehicle has been recalled and if so can I check the if necessary  remedies have been carried out.

Had these issues on my 2010 Octavia VRS and 2012 is on the cusp of the revised tensioner so worth checking. There is plenty of information online and on you tube. I think there is even a cover that can be removed so that an inspection of the timing chain tensioner can be made which should confirm the revision.

Thank you Clarky2 for the info. Since I posted I have caught that video and I see why you recommended it. It is the the main issue at the moment with the Yeti and a 2012 Tiguan. They're both at dealers yards and I haven't inspected them. I won't consider buying unless they can prove they have an updated tensioner fitted. Yetis are not that well known down here not a lot have been sold so it's a little difficult to gauge popular opinion. Personally I like the look but wonder about a 1.2 or 1.4 motor, there is 1.8l available at the moment, the only secondhand one that is on the market in Qld as far as I can tell. Well thanks again for info, Cheers.

Hey mate, I've got the 2016 1.4l (92TSI) down here in Melbourne. And you're right, the Yeti isn't too well known in this country. Well, the Skoda brand itself isn't too well known in Australia. Though I do see 5'ish Yeti on the road per week.

There's an Aussie Skoda group on Facebook with a few Yeti owners in there if you're interested.
