Owners opinions mk111 over mk11

Featured Replies

Ok, first and foremost I have no intention of offending anyone who owns any of the following cars I mention.........

From first hand experience I know the the mk11 Fabia wasn't the same build quality as the mk1

There is more than one report of issues from mk11 Octavia owners when upgrading or even driving the mk111 version, build quality driving position headroom etc

So my question as I may well be looking to upgrade to a Superb estate in time, do I look for a late mk11 or maybe wait a bit longer for a mk111 experiences of drivers of both would be appreciated

thanks

Having owned all 3 Superb’s (2 x MKI, 1x MKII Estate & current MKIII Hatch) there is certainly a big step up each time, is the MKIII better than the MKII?

YES!

I wouldn't have bought a mark 1 or 2 as didn't like the look of them, the mark 3 is outstanding.

massive improvement.

I'm still on the fence to be honest. Yes the III is the nicer shape, and yes it does seem to have better quality plastics. However, I'm really disappointed with the ride quality in mine. The suspension from the rear seems to have a secondary hollow thump which in my opinion shouldn't be there on a new car. When driving at night over bumpy roads there is an obvious shake in the headlight beam, again I think it shouldn't be there. This is Skoda's flagship car after all and it's not a cheap car anymore so I don't think it is too much to expect good build quality.

I've had two SIIs and now an SIII.  There is a very obvious improvement in nearly all areas and certainly in every one that really matters.  The SII is a very good car but the ride quality, comfort and refinement on the SIII (both on 18s and standard suspension) has improved even further and the car is much smoother.  Build quality and material quality is also a step up.  Exterior looks are no contest as the new model looks really sharp compared to the older slightly awkward shape.  The only thing I would say is that the design of the interior on the SIII makes it look more like the Octavia.  The older Superb looked classier inside.  The new Superb is (almost) up there with the likes of Audi IMO.  Even more room in the SIII as well compared to an already huge interior from previous generations.

A shake in the headlight is mentioned - is this not just the xenon lights self adjusting as they are linked to the suspension and they will flip a little over a bump.  It does on mine and all previous cars with bi-xenon and I would consider that normal.

Many thanks for the replies so far, will be interesting to see if or what further replies follow either confirming or discuss the views so far

thanks

This is my first ever Skoda and I've never even driven any others so cannot compare previous models.

The ride is very good, a bit bumpy on some of the terrible roads we have here in the UK but that applies to any car.  I've 19" alloys on mine which do not diminish the ride at all, esp on the comfort setting.  I keep changing settings but at the moment I have the indivdual set up as: sport for steering, normal for the drive, and comfort for suspension. Seems a decent combination but will no doubt tweak again.

Worst ride I ever had was in a Mondeo Titanium X Sport with 18" wheels.  It was a really stiff suspension which was good when cornering and on country roads but when going over a rough surface or bridge breaks you could feel your fillings rattling.  Also had a Honda Accord (a floating sofa like ride) and an Audi A6 (similar to the Superb pretty much).

Overall the Superb is a great car - very impressed.
