Apologies I'm sure this is covered some where, but I cant find (am not good and searching)

 

I'm off to France at the weekend, and I am sure I read a thread that says no need to put stickers on, but can adjust the beams from the headlamp internally.

 

did I misread or is there some one who can tell me how ?

Assuming you have a pre-FL halogen equipped car, you need to move two levers inside the headlights as described here: 

 

Stick on beam deflectors are also fine if you don't want to mess about.

 

Even if @craigandrew didn't bother adjusting them, you should to avoid dazzling other road users.

mine is a 2005 55 plate I think post FL.

The MK2 had a facelift in about 2009 so you have a pre-FL MK2. The guide I posted is correct for your car

To be fare I didn't really go out driving at night and if I was out during the day I was back before dusk 

Stick with the beam benders, just make sure you use the good quality ones. Taking the headlights out to move the levers is just not worth the hassle. There easy to place on and any glue residue is removed my neat screen wash.
