Removing and replacxing front wing

Featured Replies

I have just acquired a replacement N/S front wing for my Octavia, and wondered how difficult a job it is to remove and re-fit a wing?

I see 2 bolts on the top, 2 bolts on the rear with the door open, and a bolt in the sill area. Are these bolts fitted with nuts, or do they screw into the subframe?

Also, on the new wing, there's a projection with 2 holes which goes down behind the bumper. Are there any screws / bolts through the wing in this area?

Lastly, is it possible to remove and re-fit the wing without removing the plastic inner wing / wheel arch?

Sorry for all the daft questions, I'm much more used to working on vintage buses - bits are (usually) more accessible on them!

Many Thanks,

Rick Roper.

I believe the bolts are of the self tapping type that will tighten themselves onto the adjoining panels.  You'll need to remove some underseal for the sill one.

The bolt fixings that are hidden behind the bumper plastic are the same but you'll need to remove the bumper shell first.

You are going to have to remove the wheel arch liner on three counts: you need to get to the fixings down the A pillar which are behind a further bit of plastic protection trim, secondly,  three or four fixing for the wheel arch liner attach it to the front wing, and finally, you need to disconnect the side repeat indicator (although that can be pulled out from the outside of the wing too).

Easy to do, just need to be methodical.
