Creak and rattle free - Happy days

Featured Replies

Ok I am new to the Skoda world having just part exed my very reliable, squeak and rattle free Ford Mondeo Titanium X with 155k on the clock for a 2013 Superb Elegance combi DSG 170bhp only 39k on the clock. Now I am over the moon with the car HOWEVER the damn thing creaks, rattles and bangs about. So what does a man do, find a forum of course and I came across this one. Since going through this forum in detail I have managed to sort the following:

  • right hand dash rattle - SORTED
  • Left hand dash rattle -SORTED
  • Banging in the boot - SORTED
  • Knocking doors catches - SORTED
  • Faint rattle from knee area - SORTED
  • creaking air vents - SORTED

Things I have sorted myself

  • creaking leather in the rear
  • creaking rear Center armrest
  • various trim creaks
  • DSG cover creak
  • Slapping noise from boot cover
  • some sort of motor housing under seat tapping

Items used to resolve the issues

  • Proper trim removal tools
  • self adhesive felt
  • Spray grease

I have only had the car 3 weeks or so and it's only now that I am really enjoying it so I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU for your help and advice.

So what's next?

Re-map or chip - DTUK :) and you'll be even more happy :)

Now there's a thought

Your car is probably out of warranty - if there wasn't 5 year purchased - so you can do a re-map - but I'd suggest chip anyway - in case of resale or write off you can remove it and use on a new car.

From time to time I have access to a car witch chip - and owner have no problems at all and it's much nicer car to drive than stock :( I don't think you'll get much higher output from re-map.

Of course you need to inform your insurance company and maybe change if they don't accept such modifications.

Interesting post, lots of rattles sorted....!

I have cured the glovebox/dash creaking on my Superb, and it has been brilliant not having that chirping away every two seconds...how I did it is below....

Still have rattling door latch and the usual tape method only lasts a day, going in to the dealers soon to get looked at.

Also still have the air box/intake rattle, noticeable when stationary and blipping throttle at 1000 RPM.  I lifted the bonnet and gave the air box a couple of knocks with my hand and the same vibration noise is evident....dealer looking at again also.

Banging in the boot - what was this ?  I have had that a couple of times going over speed bumps, a definite clunk from the book, I put it down to the spare wheel or something in the boot rather than suspension etc.

Apart from the rattles still loving my Superb.  Gave it a good clean at the weekend and a coat of Autoglym Aqua Wax which I hadn't used before, comes up very nicely.  Car had been Lifeshined from new by the first owner so I am still benefiting from that also.

Cheers

I thought the same but as it happens it was the boot stops. I adjusted them and hey presto no banging I can share the photos if you like it was a 5minute job.

my glove box creak / rattle turned out to the side cover rubbing on the edges so I placed a thin strip of self adhesive tape along the edge. I did the same with the fuse side but that turned out to be an additional connection for something, I taped this down and it was sorted.

I used blutac for my side panel rattle along with sticky back felt. I found once the interior temperature of the car warmed up the rattle got less but the rattle was way too loud not to do something.
