Boot openning - Did I manage to break it?

Featured Replies

Hi all, just looking for some help with the twindoor boot opening on my car.  I only picked the car up last week and it was working fine then but today when I open the boot it always opens just the tailgate.

I've been playing about with my 'new' car over the weekend so it's possible I've upset something either in the hardware or in the settings but can't think what.

I had the rear seats down and noticed that I'd not returned them properly (red tag showing) and thought that maybe this was indicating that tailgate should be used (seats down so default to tailgate) but even after making sure seats were up and locked the tailgate still opens.

When I close it I see it pull down the boot lid and window and hear the mechanism working (a bit of a clunk) but then after a few seconds I see it release again as though the tailgate handle has been triggered, there is no brake light flashing though.

Am I doing something stupid or did something break?

I guess it it's broken it's better that it's chosen tailgate mode to do this in.

Thanks in advance for all help offered.

Try searching for "Twindoor Problems". The twindoor wiring is known to be a problem area.

Good luck with sorting it.

Hi Drefaldwyn, thanks for that, I'll check it out after work today.  Shame that it was working and now stopped, just unlucky coincidence I guess.  Not the end of the world though as it has 'failed' in the right mode although it may not be too good running around with the interface lock open.

Have you bought from dealer or private?

Hi Jafo

Bought from non-Skoda dealer.  Not sure how warranty will work out with this but I'll be chasing that before I get my spanners out.

Just wanted to check it wasn't something stupid I'd done.

Have you touched the right hand handle first, before you open using the one in the centre

Hi Skippy, the problem I have is the opposite of that.  The boot is always opening with full tailgate,  as though I have pressed the right hand handle.

Actually I've been out this evening  and had another look.  I found that if I press down on the rear glass after closing the tailgate, when the side locks engage the tail stays closed allowing the small boot only to open next time.  It is as though the the closure is a little stiff so when the side locks attempt to close they don't make it all the way and it seems the logic is to release rather than hold half way.

So it seems the problem may be mechanical rather than electrical, possibly just something needs lubing.

Any advice on necessary lubrication? Where to lube and what with?
