ECU shutdown

Featured Replies

If I remove the battery how long will it take for ecu to shutdown so I can remove airbag components

Disconnecting the airbag is not the problem it’s connecting it back up where then can go off.

If doing a steering wheel then release the airbag clip and then disconnect the battery next, by the time you come to re-connect it all the power will have drained.

I have herd some people removing both battery cables and touching them together, never done it myself though.

I need to remove the glove box . Witch means unplugging the airbag switch. If I just unplug it il get a airbag warning light.

then il be charged to get it turned off .  So if I disconnect the battery and wait for ecu to shutdown I can unplug it.

then when I reconnect it il get a airbag light witch should ??? Go off when I drive up the road,

In your case then just disconnect the battery 1st and then re-connect it back up last and you will be fine.

I've recently changed my standard wheel for a more chunky FR Leon one. Swapped back a couple of times just through indecision tbh. I disconnected the negative terminal from the battery and wrapped it in a cloth so it can't accidently touch the battery post. Left for about half an hour then removed airbag/steering wheel. Then just connect again when new airbag is fitted. A thing to say regarding disconnecting batteries. It is normal after to get two or three warning lights on the dash. Steering/TC iirc. They will go out after a few seconds of driving.

IIRC the workshop manual says disconnect the battery then wait 30 minutes.

Standard practice is to disconnect the battery and wait half an hour for the power to discharge from the airbags.

Always disconnect the battery first on all electronic systems on the car, never touch the airbag system untill this is done, all of us in the trade do this as it's the most safest thing to do.

Many thanks thanks

i think my question has been answered now.

If you don't turn on the ignition whilst the airbag switch is disconnected the airbag light won't come on.
