Light Assist- Erratic

Featured Replies

I have complained about the erratic behaviour of the light assist function before. Headlights come on in the sunlight and don't go off again - or rarely. Eventually I e-mailed Skoda and my dealer chased things up - they admiited they didn't have a lot of experience with light assist.

Well the dealer had the car for 2 hours last Friday and were apparently on a conference call with Skoda technical while the car was hooked up to the computer. I don't know what they did but the lights are 100% better - go off as soon as I reverse out of the garage and only come on when it gets to dusk or very, very overcast. Dealer called me today to say that they want the car again because Skoda technical want to run more tests and programming!!

Not sure what they did -but I will ask when I take it in again.

Glad it's sorted, keep us posted:thumbup:

Be good if Skoda Technical could pass the information to all the dealers- I've got used to my car thinking it's dark most of the time. Do you think they'll fix the wipers any time soon?:D

Well, it is now a week since the dealer had the car to investigate the light assist. It is better than it was but here is the thing - light assist works fine on general light overcast days when the light is even. However, for the last two days we have had bright sunshine and light assist just can't cope with that. The lights just stay on more or less all the time; perhaps it is due to the increased shadows and hence wider swings in light/dark but whatever the reason the system is seriously lacking. This doesn't seem like rocket-science to me, my cars in the USA had "light assist" and it worked perfectly. I think that the problem is possibly because the VW group have over-engineered the system - one thing about USA cars is that they are not over-engineered!!

In the USA the threat of a class-action suit would have this solved very quickly for everyone. Certainly recalls were always very prompt for even the most minor of things because the car companies knew that the lawyers were always in the wings.

I will feed back to Skoda and see what happens.

I agree, i think the system is too smart for its own good. The maxidot display on mine dims and brightens variably as i drive under trees etc so it obviously uses an analogue signal from the sensor. Very clever but it doesn't seen to interpret the info properly when deciding to turn on/off the lights
