Xenon adjustment

Featured Replies

My Xenons appear to be a little low and possibly need adjusting. I know that the dealer can do this but is it possible to do yourself (save the 100 mile round trip)

I had mine adjusted (VAG com from EddyH in Pontefract) and messed them up a little. Didnt have a proper reference point to adjust to. So I took it to the dealer and they set them as Skoda says, still too low. I'm going to get them to fit some bulb upgrades. Apparantly they will charge about 1/2 an hour to do it. They will have to readjust them again. They refused to tweak them slightly higher last time. I'm going to insist and talk to the MD this time if they refuse again. I paid £500 extra and they are not good enough!!

I had my dealer adjust them higher on my VRS when it was in for its 10k service last week, much better now.

Very surprised they refused to help you, the dealer I use was more than happy to tweak them.

Headlight adjustment is part of an inspection service.

Put it this way, I went back several times and every time they service it I have to go back in to get it sorted...

As I suspected. !! They dont stay set on the adjustment they were set at. Why? Is this a fault? £500 !!!!

If they aren't staying at the set adjustment then they aren't set correctly.

If you accesss headlight range control (address 55 iirc) with VAG COM (VAS 5051/2) and basic settings group 1 and set the headlights when prompted you then must got back into is and select group 2 to set the adjustment. If the adjustment is not set in group 2 then the lamps will revert back to the previous setting.

I get this BUT why wont my dealer set them just as I want them? The Skoda factory setting is too low!!

If I get a VAG CoM again is there a way of setting them correctly? I used the garage door with far from perfect results at EddyH's

Your best bet is probably an MOT centre where you know someone, and VAGCOM.

It's my intention to do that - I don't want to blind people but at the same time I'd like to see a tad more road lit up... :(

Yep try a local MOT station or maybe an Audi, Seat or VW garage that's closer to you. You may have to pay a few quid for labour, but at least you'll have them fixed :D

Exactly what I did.

Local independant VW specialist adjusted mine for a tenner.

Mine were too low and even worse after lowering. My local dealer didn't have a clue, probably never worked on a car with Xenons. They kept telling me they were fine and that as Xenons don't just scatter light thats how they were meant to be. Another Skoda dealer told me that as they were self leveling they couldn;t be adjusted. Both Caffyns (1st Tunbridge Wells, 2nd Ashford!)

Anyway, took it to a very helpful VW dealer (JCB Medway) where one of the two onsite msater techs had a look. They were far too low and one was pontining to the near side way too much. He adjusted them as high as he could within the boundaries and let me go for a test drive to make sure I was happy.

I can now see why they cost £400! I had to pay about £20 for labour but he he was booked on the job for about 45mins (inc test drive) so can't complain.

Now thining of getting all my servicing done by VW dealers.
