idle noise/wirring noise

Featured Replies

hi there people,my 2010 fabia 1.2 has a noise when idling which goes away completely when clutch pedal is pressed ,i am led to believe this is normal on these cars ,is that true ? mileage is coming up to 60k car drives absolutely fine and i just had new clutch and release bearing fitted and has made no difference whatsoever your advice please ,many thanks

Sometimes a chatter might be noticed but not constantly. I have seen this in many brands of vehicle, including motorcycles. Did you get the clutch fitted from a reputable clutch centre? also, they often add a small mushroom shaped bolt to the bill as they have a "Funny" head which wear out commonly so advisable to replace unless seen to be very sound. (Not worth replying an expensive clutch without replacing a worn bolt too). This "Bolt" will add around £15 to the bill. Dunno why they don't just quote it as part of the job and change it every time to be honest as in this instance, it will probably reduce the initial cost anyway!

hi there, thanks for the reply, the noise is only present at idle when not in gear and goes when clutch pedal is pressed ,yes clutch and release bearing fitted by good garage and well known for quality work however I have spoken to the guy I bought it from who is a family friend that is used car dealer that buys used skodas constantly and he says is nothing to worry about and very common on 1200 engines especially ,my own research has also found this as well so I have put it to bed but thanks for your input

The noise will be a bearing in the gearbox, that's why it goes away when you press the clutch. If it was release bearing related it would make a noise when you pressed the clutch down.

I remember my Grandad's fiesta was exactly the same and it never got any worse in the 10+ years he owned the car
