New Skoda Amundsen II faults.

Featured Replies

The newer Yeti based Amundsen II system is now starting to show up with a few faults. I'll list them here with as much detail as I have, and update the thread as and when any fixes become available.

Boot Loop fault. This fault  manifests itself as the Skoda Logo showing for about 40 seconds, then the unit shuts down and restarts with the same loop.

Emergency Download fault.  This fault manifests itself as either a sudden failure and shut down, a failure to read SD cards and switching randomly to the radio, or any other such means. This then causes the unit to boot up briefly with a blue screen and a message saying Emergency Download for a few seconds,

Then jumps to a red screen and a message saying "No Suitable Update Found. Please Insert Valid Update. Will Reset Now"

And then shuts down before restarting and repeating the same procedure.

I've not found a fix for it yet, but I have a unit away with someone looking at it in depth to see if it can be repaired.

so would be cool if u find a way! do the radio search for a disks allways at u too?

This unit came to me faulty and I haven't tried it in the car. All I've done is bench testing and it does nothing but shut down and restart. I'm only aware of what the owner told me was happening initially.

also i found out that if u insert the unit in a car it will kill ur battery if u dont mark out the voltage cause it search for a cd with recovery mode or something like this!

vw told me they dont know what error this is! so i played a bit and get the info that it give images what they can download directly from a server from vw but i didnt found it like warez or stuff like this....

i keep searching and let u know if i found out more or solve the prob would be cool if u find something =DDDDD!

best regads

The Amundsen unit in the picture above has no cd drive so it can't be updated via cd.

I've found people with this fault gone to VW / Skoda and had the unit replaced, so I'm not sure main dealers have the capability to recover them when they fail like this.

could be usb, sd card or bluetooth/r32/wlan?! hmmmm did search 3hours yesterday i think i will look now who produce the media systems actually for vw, skoda, audi etc. pherhaps there is a way to get more informations...

wish u a nice weekend =)!

Hello, I have the same red message on my Volkswagen Polo.

Do you find a solution?

Thank you.

Not as yet, no. There's a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) in the USA which details a dealer software update fix, but I've not found a solution outside of this yet.

Hi, I have the same problem with my vw polo.

Is there a solution?

Thanks.

Other than the main dealers and asking for a software update I don't think there's anything at the moment.

How are you getting on with this? I have the same fault in a Passat.

Dead end here, other than main dealers and hope they can think outside of "You need a new unit sir".

Right, I have an answer.

I bit the bullet and rang around some VW dealers as no one else wanted to touch it.

Most want £70 just to have a look but, unbelievably, VW Derby said 'bring it in and we'll have a look'.

They plugged it into their machine, it eventually said it wanted to do an update, so they did. It took the best part of 2 hours to do this update and it came back fine.

The car wasn't bought from them and isn't under warranty but they just did it with no charge!

They also said they needed it for another couple of hours to do another update which would stop it happening again. Which they have now done, again FOC.

They don't have to actually do any 'work', just press a button to set it off updating until it finishes.

I think this might be a known fault with these that is resolved by a firmware update which fixes the bug.

I don't know if you can do this update yourself but it might be worth asking a dealer to do the update. Even if you have to pay a bit it would be worth it as these units are outrageously expensive to replace.
