2010 Octavia Estate Rear Wiper

Featured Replies

Hi, newbie here. I recently put a rear window mounted bike rack onto the Octavia and when I took it off, the wiper no longer worked. It sort of moved a bit then eventually stopped all together.

I checked the fuses - all appeared Ok.

I figured the motor was cactus, so I bought a replacement (second hand) and put that in and it also didn't work either. I pulled the old one apart and stuck 12v on it and it worked, so the motor probably wasn't the issue.

So, now wondering if its the relay (or fuse...will check again).

Can anyone point me to where the relays are and which is the relevant one? And in general, any other tips?

Thanks!

Mark

Have you checked for any damaged or broken wires in the umbilical from the car body you the hatchback?

If you turn on the wiper and wiggle the rubber boot containing the wires does the wiper work (remember that the rear wiper is intermittent in operation).

Does the heated rear window work? If not it could be a bad earth.

Thanks. Ill check, but my working hypothesis is that the bike rack jammed the wiper which somehow burned something out.

I assumed this was a fuse or the motor, but they both seem ok.

Have you seen the post from FurryFriend in this thread?

Yes, check all those things.

If you've got maxidot, makes sure boot is shown as closed.

I'd probably start with a multimeter on the connector to the wiper motor. If no voltage when the wiper turned on, try replacing the fuse even if it looks ok. Should be 15a on the second last row from bottom. The Schematics for fuse are usually pictured in manual are for LHD, so you have to look from behind to get a mirror of the schematic to get fuse placement on RHD.

It is the only fuse on that row in my Estate (depends on accessory fitment of course).

All sorted. I think when I put the new one in i hadnt pushed the fuse in right. Once i fixed this the replacement motor worked.

Didn't end there - despite the part number being the same the wiper spline fitting was different. So I swapped the circuit boards and the old one worked fine. I had suspected the circuit board all along.

Thanks for everyones help! Just gotta get the trim back on now!
