Oil Leak

Recommended Posts

After the car has been used and left to stand there is a small film of oil left on the floor.

This was the result after three days of standing after the car was last used.

The oil is left on the left hand side of the car under where the gear box is.

Is this a common issue as I haven't noticed it before?

Not common, or good so best investigate and find the source of the leak.

That's what I was afraid of.

Phoning up the dealers next week to get it booked in. Luckily its still in warrantee.

When was the last Oil Change done?

If your vRS is a 2014 i take it that it was not one that needed the Service Campaign '34F7' on the DSG, changing Synthetic Oil for Mineral Oil & software update.

There is a more recent service campaign from 2013-2015 on some DSG '34H5'. a Software update, because of overheating and cracks.

The last oil change/service was done last August with the current mileage on the car being 8328 miles.

Haven't had any correspondents from ŠKODA UK or the dealership about taking the car in apart from the normal service.

The gearbox seems to be running fine with no indication of a problem.

Tried the vin checker and reports:-

Dear customer,
No relevant recall campaigns have been launched by ŠKODA for the entered VIN

Will get my mother to ask about service campaign '34H5' when phoning the dealer next week.

Thanks.

The 3 year warranty is up on the 1st September 2017 with the inclusive service package.

We didn't know if she was going to keep the car after the PCP finance is up in March 2018 so didn't bother with the 5 year extended one.

The dealer called out the AA to assess the car.

The AA identified that there was a leak from the gearbox.

Their report stated that he car needed further investigation by the dealer to see what is causing the leak.

The AA said it was safe to drive for short distances but wont not risk longer distances.

After reporting back to the dealer they said that the car would be in the garage for 2 days to diagnose the problem.

My mother didn't want to drive the car, so the dealers is collecting the car the next day and supply a loan car for the following day.

The car is due to have the service campaign '34H5' applied during the next service so the vin checker was incorrect saying that it was not due.

Hopefully it isn't bad news and it will be a quick fix.

Since Service Campaign 34H5 has become required it appears because of DSG leaking for what ever failures it looks like your mother will be getting a new DSG fitted.

Skoda Assist or the AA should arrange the Recovery of the car to a Dealership / Repairer and a Courtesy car because the leak might be safe for your mother but not other innocent road users.

The 2 day diagnosis is a joke, is that hours of the car waiting to be looked at?

Maybe one day and a night parked up until a technician has an hour available.

Best call Skoda UK or the Dealership, get the car safely off the road and a Courtesy car arranged.

Reminds me of the days when the oil in the torque converter used to leak out into the sump, if not used for some days, then the sump would be overfilled and leak.

That was more a case of old seals though.

Seeing as it is a sealed for life unit, and this DSG is one with the Mineral Oil since it was manufactured after the World Wide Recall and now there are issues with

pressure hence a new 'service campaign' you need to find where that leak is ASAP incase something does give putting Mineral Oil from the MCU or oil from the DSG

over the road.

Exactly, only a teaspoonful. no harm done, but if then 1.7 litres is ejected only running 10 miles to a dealership that will be Skoda Assist / AA that have to answer for that for not identifying the cause of the teaspoon's worth but saying it is OK to drive a short distance.

It is a 2014 car that has only covered 8,328 miles.

It is not like it was just someone changing engine oil and not fitting a new sump plug and there being a little leakage.

Latest update.

The car is back. There is a leak coming from the gearbox but only requires "a part" to fix it.

The part is on order and will be at the dealers within the next 10 days.

Please ask if that part is the 'Mechatronic Control Unit' when it goes back in.

Will do.

It has been booked in for the Mechatronic Control Unit to be replaced.

Is this a common issue to have this part replaced with a warranty?

It was getting a bit common with the DSG's from 2009-2012/13 and then there was the World Wide Recall & European Service Campaign and the Synthetic Oil changed to mineral oil & the Software Update.

But your DSG should have been manufactured after this, and have Mineral Oil from the Factory,

so maybe now you are an early adopter of the Failures that have required the VW Group to have the Service Campaign '34H5' to do a Software Update.

There has to be failings that have required them to come up with this new 'Software' on the DSG from 2013-2014/15.

Best have Skoda UK put a Extended Warranty on the DSG even if they say it is only covered under the Original Manufacturers Warranty.

They can say what they like, there appears to be still Fundamental Design or Manufacturing, Material or Component Choice and Software failings.

Has anyone had one of the reconditioned Mechatronic units fitted from the company I've seen on Facebook? ECU Testing or something? £250 plus vat. They say there improved units over standard......

The problem with the MCU to 2012/13 was that the Synthetic Oil in the MCU had sulphur in it and then there could be corrosion.

World Wide Recall and just a Service Campaign in Europe.

If you have an early DQ200 DSG MCU fail have VW pay for it.  In the rest of the world they extended the warranty.

In New Zealand they fitted a new MCU.

It was their Fundamental Design, Manufacturing, Materials, Fluids, Software that was at fault. So they need to suck it up.

The Newer DSG have mineral oil in, so 34H5 is for a whole different issue.

VW Are always quick to say they have things sorted and keep forgetting to tell people when it is going tits up again.
