Skoda Fabia ABS light indicator issue - Resolved

Featured Replies

Dear All,

I would like the share one important issue which I faced and It would be very helpful to all Skoda owners.

I was observing the ABS light in Dashboard after switching the car on and that indicates some problem with ABS. The problem is that light only come sometimes and not every time. I called Skoda service Center (Autoban) which is in Jogeshwari West. I told them the issue and took the appointment but due to some problem I am not able to go on time so I called them again and asked If I can come now, they said yes so I went there. It took almost an hour and then I again went to reception but my job card was pending and no service advisor is allotted. The receptionist looks surprise that I am still not attended then they provide me an advisor and unfortunately the ABS light went away when I start the car. The advisor suggested that even though we scan now, its of no use as the fault light is not present but we know the issue, it’s with ABS sensor of the car which is common and consumable part. I asked for approximate quotation for this where he mentioned if you change 1 sensor, it will cost you 8k and if you change all that will cost you 13K as we have a package. I surprise with the pricing and asked him how come one is for 8k and all for 13K where he mentioned that’s a skoda pricing and those are not in stock so If you order then we will get it in a week or 2 weeks’ time and you need to pay some money in advance. I didn’t take any decision that time but called my Mechanic who is very reliable but having some knowledge about Skoda where he suggested lets open the wheels and check the break and sensor, such situation may occur due to dust or any particles or loose connection so he checked all the wheels but that issue didn’t clear. Where he suggested to scan the car and will check the issue on some other time. Till the time I was driving the car on abs light on sometimes as the breaks are pretty fine as compare to my previous cars even with ABS light on. But one day the car has given the alarm (Continues Bips) while driving and showing Hand break light as well. I took the car to corner of the road, switched off and switched on but still the alarm and both lights are continuously on. I called my mechanic and told him about the this issue. He asked me to check break oil somewhere close point. I checked but the break oil, that was on proper level which I conveyed back so asked me to come to his garage and called the guy who does the machine scan of cars. When he scanned the car, he found the below errors.

00285 *ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Front Right (G45)        Impulsive Signal

01201 ABS Valves Supply Voltage

00301 * ABS Return Flow Pump                                      Impulsive Signal

After checking the below errors, we have decided to change the Right Front Sensor, There is no doubt that I am going to Service Center as the part is really costly and not available too so I asked my mechanic to get the part. It took 2 days to get the correct part (Original) and the cost of the same is Rs. 1500 with labour, can you imagine Rs.8000/- vs. Rs.1500/- No wonder why Skoda cars are costly on maintenance in India. But still the work is not completed as the ABS light and Alarm is still on so we called the software guy and ask him to scan again. Fortunately The error code 00285 *ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Front Right (G45)  has cleared but the dashboard light still present. I went on internet and saw many articles on this like changing ABS fuse so we also checked all fuse but those are all fine. Basically ABS have sensors, ABS Hydraulic Pump and Electronic Control Unit. I also went on internet to read articles and there was one article where a person mentioned about the whole ABS unit went faulty and Skoda gave him a quote of Rs. 1.20 Lakhs to change the unit in India, that actually was a nightmare for me. And that day, I was quite sad because I actually felt that why the hell I don’t listen to people who said don’t buy Skoda. There was no other option now other than searching the solution or use the car as it is which is not my cup of tea. I started searching for options like used part from salvage car but my mechanic yet to accept the defeat. He called me one day later, when are you giving the car to complete the work. I felt that he was equally challenged and I gave the car to him where we decided that he will give the car to some electrician who is working on imported cars so I gave my car to him, the first day has just gone with troubleshooting but no solution and I was almost sure that he will reply me with failure of unit. Second day, he called the guy who is having the device to scan the car and he sat with the electrician to check all connection as many times the error need to be erased manually through the device and check if it is arising again, else the mechanic will keep on troubleshooting even if it clears so the presence of that person is also important. I called in afternoon to my mechanic if any progress happened where he replied not yet and in evening I got that golden call from him to say that the issue is resolved and you can take the car now. I was so happy like winning the battle. I asked him about the fault where he mentioned the connection problem to ECU. All this work took 2 days and its now after a 5 months my car is working fine. Big Thanks to My Mechanic Sandeep, His Known electrician and Mr. Murari Sharma who worked with scanning device.

Do you really want to know the total expenses for this????

Rs.1500 for ABS Sensor + Rs. 500/- for Scanning + Rs.2000 for Labor of mechanic + Electrician hence Total Expenses = Rs.4,000/- only

I was just thinking if I would have given it Skoda service center then First of all they would have changed all the sensors for Rs.13000 but still the issue wouldn’t have been clear as there are other errors so they might have check somethings casually and would have asked me to change ABS unit as the same error codes has been reported for the case which I mentioned above costing Rs.1.20 lacs.. I specifically written this for all Skoda owners who may face such problems and Service Centers can exploit such incidents.

Hope this article can be useful for Skoda Fabia Owners....

Cheers
