Pairing Key Fob & Car

Featured Replies

Picked my 280 L&K up today and drove 120 miles back home. Really pleased and impressed.  Just one problem. I was given 3 Key Fobs  a silver edged one that works fine and 2 others which don't work at all .These 2 both have a red light shining when you press one of the buttons but have no effect on the car. Does anyone know of a  pairing procedure?

I have discovered a synchronising procedure of sorts on page 57 of the owner's manual. It involves unlocking the driver's door with the key. This is not so easy with a Kessy model as the lock cylinder has to be exposed by removing it's plastic cover which is part of the door handle. If it is anything like my old Seat Toledo this is accomplished by inserting the key in the hole underneath this plastic cover. I never quite managed this as I was afraid of breaking the cover. Has anyone done this successfully and is there a particular technique to it?

find someone near with VCDS is much easier

Can you make the keys and settings specific to a driver ? e.g. chrome driver 1 and one of the all black ones to driver 2 ?

Yes. Both myself and the wife drive our car and the seating/mirror/radio stations etc are all stored to our specific keys.

@Robbydazzler first of all, glad you like the car.! A 120 mile drive home should have given you a little time to get the feel of it :)

If you're worried about damaging the door handle (which I completely understand) why not take the car to a local dealer and let them take a look for you, even a reputable non-Skoda garage should be able to help.

Out of curiosity, aside from the chrome trim, are all three fobs the same? Do any of them have a fold out key or do they all just have the 'emergency key'?

Thanks. The 3 fobs are the same except for the chrome on the posh one (which works!!!). All 3 have enclosed "emergency keys" which can be detached from the fob.

Ah, good. I was concerned that they may have got the keys mixed up... Like I said before, if in doubt nip in to a reputable garage and I'm sure they'll help you out.

A little disappointing that the selling dealer didn't ensure all the keys worked but unfortunately, I'm not really surprised.

Hope you get it sorted.

Just use a blunt tool to remove the cover, maybe wooden or plastic, or covered with a cloth, you wont damage the paint then.

Thank you all for the info but the plot thickens . I managed to remove the plastic cover of the key cylinder barrel (quite easily actually) but found that neither key from the " faulty " fobs would open the door . The keys are a completely different pattern to the key in the fob that works. This key opens the door. Tried improvising by using this key to lock and unlock the door to synchronise the errant fobs without success. Have now emailed the dealer demanding my missing fobs. A question for any L&K owner...... do all the key fobs supplied to you have chrome embellishments or are the spares plain plastic?

Only 1 key has the chrome tip, other two are plain black. I havent bothered to check that they work yet, I might go and do so after reading this thread

Go back to the dealer. It's a strong possibility they have somehow mixed up the keys or it left the factory with a mismatched set.

I had two "keyless" keys supplied with a new Renault Laguna II but only ever used the main one. It was almost five years before I discovered the second key didn't actually work/fit and when the dealership checked the key number on the computer it was for another Renault Laguna II registered in the north of England.

The key numbers are printed on the small circuit board when you open the Skoda keys (as you would if changing the battery) so you could check that yourself.

Been scratching around the internet trying to find how to pair my key that has stopped operating the remote central locking. This procedure sorted the problem out straight away. Many thanks. 👍
