Hi all,

Long story short, I am currently on my 3rd Octavia a 2010 1.4tsi 122hp. Had it for 3 years and now want to replace it. Not keen on diesels due to low mileage and DPF issues. (Hence the reason for changing last time  from a 2ltr diesel to a petrol). I am thinking about getting a bigger caravan and need a more powerful car for towing it. I have spent ages looking for a bigger petrol  engine, but no manufacturers seem to do big petrol's anymore, so I am considering getting a newer 1.4tis which have the more powerful engine.

 

..just wondering if anybody else tows with a 1.4 148hp, what weight is your van, and if so how do you rate it for towing? Many thanks for any feedback 

Hi Stu, I don't tow with my 150 TSI but from my previous, fairly extensive, towing experience I would think that this engine would make a very capable tow vehicle. It really comes down the weight of the caravan you are looking to tow (to keep things legal and safe) and the caravan braking system - the 150 engine will have more than enough power to tow at legal speeds. 

Given that air-adjustable rear shocks are not an option I have seen available,  the tow hitch nose weight of your rig can be substantially reduced by fitting one of the excellent stabilisers available, reducing to zero the risk of the dreaded 'tail-wagging the dog'  syndrome.
