Insurance (split from long mudflaps)

Featured Replies

New to the forum not even had my Yeti delivered yet,was considering mudflaps as my first modification the oem variety fitted by myself.

Like the idea of the extended ones fixed onto the OEM variety.

Looked online and It would appear that insurance companys are covering themselves by insisting any mods whatsoever are to be notified even flaps virtualy anything cupholder?

I dread to think what they would think to some of the even mildly modified cars mentioned on this forum badges wheel arch kits pretty much everything appears to be frowned upon.

I ran steel wheels with winter tyres on my previous car but stuck rigidly to the wheel and tyre specification for my exact model of car to avoid problems when informing my insurer.

I might consider winter tyres or maybe all weathers, are all weathers to be notified ?

I dread to think are we to beware the parking permit holder? Is that squashed fly on my bumper ok ?

Ok I was joking about the squashed fly:biggrin: but seriously the insurance companies dont make life simple do they?

I found a site that listed as a percentage what the increase In premium could be for individual modifications performance enhancement came top at 100%, It seemed to indicate that a heavily modified car could be as much as two to three times the going rate extra Wow:crying:.

I think my new Yeti will remain as far as possible In standard specification, adding OEM mudflaps and considering some after market wheels with winter tyres maybe a rubber bootliner oh and a dashcam.

Are dash cams on the list for notification to your insurer?:wondering:.

Nearly forgot must have a chrome embelished cup holder, only bit of actual bling I dare fit without taking out a second mortgage for the insurance premium.

The insurance companies make life perfectly simple; you notify them and if they consider it a modification they might make a charge.

My car came with mudflaps fitted therefore I do not consider them a modification, however the tow bar fitted post-purchase I do, but they have made no charge for that.

It does seem to be the case that those that choose the "cheap" insurance companies are the ones who get charged more.

It is never clear to me whether modifications include factory fitted extras?

My new car will have the underbody protection, electric seat, net partition etc.

When you complete the online quotes it is all a bit vague.

Also they all default to the car having a Thatcham approved alarm ticked on the form. I always change this to manufacturers alarm but presume this increases the premium? Does the Yeti have this approved alarm?

Thanks, I always thought this was an aftermarket upgrade.
