18k on semi synthetic oil?

Featured Replies

Service light on our 63 plate 900cc turbo Renault Clio came on 10k after its last service.

Arnold Clark took it today and did nothing. It was a free service in with the car package but AClark said it wasnt due for another 8k which means 18k in total on this oil.

The tech today said they use semi synthetic oil and car has been serviced every 10k up till now.

Sound correct??

Arnold clark didnt even switch off the service light.

How does this sound to you guys?

What are you saying, Arnold Clark Inverness last serviced it, put in Semi-Synthetic oil and set the Service Indicator to Variable Servicing?

Or have now put in Semi-Synthetic?

EDIT, sorry posted before your post was complete.

What oil does it show on the invoice.

Sir ARNOLD CLARK died recently so he could not reset anything, who were you talking to a actual Tech, Master Tech, FITTER or some dude / dudess on the Service Desk?

SOUNDS JUST LIKE WHAT YOU GET AT ARNOLD CLARK DEALERSHIP's,

In this case ARNOLD CLARK INVERNESS.

But you should know that.

We were kindof forced into it, it was Ness Motors when the wife bought the car and came with 4 years servicing.

AC bought Renault and yes I know Mr Clark had died,  it was a technician (fitter) i asked whilst i was there who told me it was semi they use.

Paper work says semi synthetic to.

I would do it myself but we need the service book stamped as we are selling it.

Offski are you ok with my post or irritated a little? Apologies if im reading some of your reply wrong.

Arnold clark skoda were terrible and dishonest. And even though my experience today was shocking Arnold Clark Renault may still be a good service and having a bad day with us.

Im sure 18k is too much on semi sythetic and am puzzled why it been every 10k until today?

Fun and games.....

Anybody want a clio?:D

Sorry not irritated with you, just my phone connection sorry.

I would never lose it with a Service Desk staff, i would just ........................................Edited.....

They pure take the pith.

Just checking bud, i was tired out yesterday so my brain would not work.

Long story short is wrong oil used and it is well overdue a oil change.  In fact the last time they said it was due I noticed on collection of the car the oil was still black and in the logs Air filter etc was ticked but oil service had NA written, this was 18 months ago!!

Will update later!

Thanks awayoffski

Update is

Service manager said in its service spring of last year with them it was supposed to have had the oil changed when it was in but it was not done. They offered us a free MOT next year as way of compensation.

So service desk marked service as done at Arnold Clark where the technician at the time thought it was on 18k longlife and just switched off the service light.

The same happened yesterday and as result we have ran old oil in a new car for 2 years or so.

A shambles and a disgrace and probably voided our warranty.

They are servicing it tomorrow as its 4th and final free service. Then the car is gone as I dont want an engine with premature wear,  problem is whoever buys it will see a huge gap in mileage.

Car will not be for sale private as i cant sell it to someone else knowing what i know.

What a mess

I suspect it will have coped quite well and after a flush and TLC I wouldn't be too concerned.

Incompetence, all the same.

I just dont understand something so basic yet vital to the engine of vehicle being over looked when in each of the 4 free services it lists whats to be done.

Spilt milk now but I agree incompetence.

Very very disappointed.

Hope it serves as a warning to others.

I have the same engine in my Dacia and it is serviced every 12.5k miles (20K Kms) which seems fine and I did 100K miles in my Fabia 2 VRS which was one of the first to go on to variable servicing.

The Fabia VRS would burn/use so much oil that I am sure I would have put about another 4 litres in it so no worries about the average age of the oil molecule in there.

Renault 0.9 litre TCE engine fairly well established and on the Renault and Dacia forums there has been little talk of poor reliability etc.

Engine has now been uprated to produce 140 Nm of torque in the 90 PS version and there is a 120 PS version powering the Twingo and Smart Brabus so much be fairly solid.   Would alway give the engine a good oil level check every 4/5 k miles anyway ie on level ground and cold on the TCE but warm and after 5/10 minute on the Fabia VRS as manual says and add a few hundred CCs if I can squeeze it in so it has as much as possible in the sump without being over the top line on the dipstick.

Both great engines, fab fuel consumption ie 50 average on the TCE but possible of 70 mpg and average 45 mpg on the twin-charge and capable of 60 mpg when in now hurry.

I understand that lol-lol,  although 41mpg is our Avg interestingly on our 900cc turbo.

Principal was use the correct oil for long life and also poor poor service.

Yesterday the service manager was desperate to get it in as its been so long without an oil change even though every 12 months it has been to them...

I know it would probably do 40k on the same oil but you want the best life possible for your engine in the long run.

Just heading to AC now to pick the wife up.

And thats an end to the latest episode,  needless to say our last!

Good day all
