Hi. Anyone know how involved it is to change an injector on a BKD code 2.0 TDi?

 

I've got a rogue one that creeps up past 2.99 mg/str in VCDS when live logging and causes a very lumpy idle. Blip the throttle and it drops down for a while and the issue goes away. Car pulls well though MAF reading is a bit on the lower than expected side. No codes logged. Not got the full scan yet but everything else seems OK.

 

Any ideas on costs to replace? I might be able to get an injector or two from a friend at work which is handy since new ones are eye-wateringly expensive!

Oh yes. Regularly! Forte Lubricants Car Diesel Fuel System Specialist Injector Cleaner. One bottle in fuel filter and another later in the tank. Long motorway miles keeping it at 3500 rpm for a good 10 miles or so every now and then to keep it nice an hot and burn off any crud etc.

 

Definitely an injector on the way out :-(

Hello there, I'm curious with this one too as have lumpy idle and used to have a Mondeo ST TDCI and **** injectors well known for lumpy idle but not always the case. I have not done it yet but if the price is right maybe get it Ultrasonically cleaned......

 

I too have used BG and Forte but I stick with Archoil products all round.

I've had to replace two injectors before on my BKD. After running injector cleaner fuel additive, hoping it would solve the issue, It didn't. Then had the injector wiring loom replaced, that didn't solve it either. So then had to find new/used injectors.

So I hopped on eBay, found a breakers and requested the injectors. Soon came, but then needed a slide hammer to pull them out.

Cost wise, I think I got lucky, as the two units I asked for, I got them for about £50 with free postage. "Laser tools" Slide hammer puller was I think about £130 ish. Then it was just time spent one night swapping them over (Much to my neighbors delight) 

Do you still need a how-to on how to pull them? I know this post is about a month old...

Volf. Did you have lumpy idle etc and if so did the 'new' injectors help. I assume you had to re code them as well. Bargain cost for the injectors though..

I would try and get some recon ones or at least used ones that have been tested, you don't want to be doing the job twice

Had more than lumpy idle, Sounded more like a spitfire heading down the road! Limp mode almost all the time, Unless I pulled over, shut down and restarted again. Didn't have to code mine.

Aye, Seller had mentioned car was running before being broke for spares.

Thanks for that, I had the car on vcds last year and was told the injectors were within there limits.......

Update - still not had this done as car was behaving itself. Started to get worse so I've got an inject from "the bay". Seems nice and clean. A mate has a new injector spray test rig so he can check it for me. Got new seals and bolts on order. When these are in I'll book it into my local VW Specialist to do the work. I believe the injectors will need adaptation in VCDS after install for optimum performance.

Just to update this:

 

Got injector with new seals fitted last week along with two new glow plugs. Car now stars on the button even yesterday with temps at 2 degrees C and the idle is lovely and smooth and no billows of smoke for the first minute. lovely.

 

Injector was about £40 from the bay

Seals and new bolts and glow plugs from Darkside about £60

1 Hour labour local independent at £72

 

Total £172 plus 2 packets of biscuits and a £5 of fuel for the loan car = one happy bunny and a nice happy car.

 

Considering new Bosch injector is around £730!!! or a Pattern part £300 I feel very lucky indeed. Fortunately I have a friend who can test injectors so it proved good before fitting.

I know this post is quite old but would you still have that how to guide on replacing those injectors?

 

Did you replace/ install new seals on injectors, or manage to get away without them? Is there copper washers in this installation?
