Jerky DSG 6 speed

Featured Replies

Hi

I brought a VRS 6 speed DSG back in December. Over the last month or two me and my partner have started to notice the gear box has become quite jerky when pulling away from a standstill, and from 2nd gear to 1st gear. Luckily the car still has warranty left, and the dealer has agreed for me to have the car looked at next week.  Could this be what’s called the mechatronic unit playing up?

Most likely needs an oil change mate.

The DQ250 is normally a fairly reliable unit. That, is of course not to say, you will never ever have a problem. As per Nfisher, because of the wet clutch design they need oil changes every 40k miles. Quite often this gets forgotten or missed.

If there is a problem remaining, it may the mechantronic unit but clutch packs and / or dual mass flywheel are more common problems with jerky changes esp in lower gears. Similar with manual cars, in a way, in those two respects.

Full scan would be where to start.

Have you noticed any unusual rattling, possibly getting worse??? especially noticeable ime from the exterior.

DMF would be my guess, but obviously needs checking out first.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the reply’s. The gear box oil was replaced at 30k when i brought the car, its just rolled past 34k. I haven’t noticed and sort of rattles. I should have been clearer on the symptoms. The car is fine from cold, but after about 20mins of driving, and getting stuck in traffic that's when the problems becomes apparent. Standstill to 1st and the car almost kangaroos down the road until I engage 2nd gear, and has almost stalled on a couple of occasions.

Regards.

Marc

Was the DSG Oil & Filter replaced by a Skoda Main Dealership, and why was it done at 30,000 miles, could it be because a DSG Fault had been reported,

ie Warranty work paid for by Skoda UK.

EDIT,

Is this the 59 plate vRS that you posted about getting with only 30,000 miles?

I asked for the oil to be changed as i knew i would have to pay out for it at some point this year. It was done by the garrage i brought the car from.

Yes this would be the car i posted about with only 30k milage.

Possibility of an issue from who ever doing the DSG Oil change, but then not much you can do about that other than paying to have it done again by a VW Independent or Main Dealership you might be able to trust.

Purchased from where? type of garage, and who's warranty?

What is the history of the car re previous owner(s)?

If it was not sold by Skoda then i would insist they take it to Skoda, or specialists at least, if they cannot rectify the problem. And supply a loan car.

The warranty is witht he company i brought the car with. The car only had one owner from new, who did very little milage.

I did have the car booked in to a specalist today, but they have messed me around, not returning calls. So i've got the car booked in next friday afternoon at a place over in Aylesbury. I've spoken to them on the phone, and they are suggesting a gearbox reset to start with.

If the car is still in warranty, and the gearbox is covered i would get the seller to sort this out...........if it were my car.

Regardless of any warranty, at less than 8 months old since your purchase, I'd be looking to the selling dealer to help sort this out if the warranty company don't. That is where your statutory rights exist.

Hi

Just an update on my problems.

The car had the gear box reset yesterday, and the technician took the car out to re-learn the gearbox.

Unfortunately this didn’t solve the problem, and the car is still jerky while moving away. Speaking to the technician after, he believes it could be a warn clutch pack. They want the car back next week so that they can investigate further.

Also while driving home yesterday i didnt have the radio on, and notice a slight scratching noise while between 2k rpm and 3k rpm?

I’m hoping once this problem is sorted this will be the end of it, as i really do enjoy driving the car.

I wonder whether they will want to replace the DMF whilst pulling the transmission out if it is clutch packs they suspect... It would be the right time, if it is likely to be a problem as well. Hopefully the warranty policy has some substance to it. Those problems are not quite bankruptcy material but far from cheap repairs.....

STA had the car back this week. The've replace the Clutch pack. I took the car on a test drive before driving home, spending lots of time in stop start traffic. Gear changes from stand still in to 1st gear are now nice and smooth. All gear changes up and down now also seem smoother. The total cost was £1320. The garage i brough the car from payed £1150 leaving me with £170 to pay.  The cars now booked in for a service next week.

Fingers crossed the problem is gone for good.
