Skoda connect and myskoda app help

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

New facelift model collected today with columbus infotainment. Dealers wifi was flaky so I had to set up skoda connect at home. I got it connected via my home WiFi. My question is can I run skoda connect via my phone using the app? Do I need to be running a portable hotpot and connect to that for it to work?

Other question is around myskoda when I try to connect to the car it installed a smart gate app and its unable to connect to car. What's the procedure for getting the myskoda app talking to the car?

Phone is htc ten. Have android auto working fine

Thanks,

Mick

I've been through all this with my new FL vRS I've got the Amundsen sat-nav in my car I'm hoping it the same to set up as the Columbus.

hear we go to start with to run skoda connect you need to turn you phone into a mobile data connection to run it and have the Bluetooth on as well this is how I've got my to work but you got Columbus in the glove box have you found a SIM card slot? If you have you can run skoda connect that way

to run myskoda you need smart gate and to get that to work you need to connect your phone via the usb with a cable and a pass code like a wifi password it in the entertainment system you need to go into the menu go into media command and in there it say mobile WLAN go into it then go into hotspot setting and it under network key you need to put that key into you phone it should come up on your phones wifi as WLAN pess it and put the key into the password on you phone then go to Samart gate and your phone and the car should talk and it should all work hopefully but you having Columbus it might be different but you will always need to connect with a cable for smart gate to work.

hope it helps you out

Thanks,

How do I know if I have smart gate or not?

Cheers,

Mick

I got it to work in mine by creating a Hotspot on my iPhone and then connecting the car to that. I registered using the Skoda connect app and then entered a code into the car in Settings, Skoda Connect, Register.

Only really used the online traffic functionality on the satnav and sending destinations to the car from the App.

Thanks I got skoda connect to work by doing exactly that. I assume then I always need to keep my phone as a hot spot and let the car connect to it if I want access to connect? I usually use Android auto so it's not that important to me. I'd like to get the myskoda app working and talking to car out of curiosity more than anything else.

Thanks

Yes you must keep the hotspot enabled which may destroy your phone battery life or remember to switch it on every time you get in the car.

If you have the Columbus then you may have a Sim slot in the glove compartment, buy a cheap pay as you go data sim for that and then you won't have to bother with your phone.

I havnt tried the MyŠKODA app, the Skoda Connect and Skoda OneApp work well. OneApp displays on the CarPlay screen.

Thanks I'm not sure if myskoda is relevant for my car?

I think it will work, smartgate is standard I think. I'm just not 100% sure what myskoda does over the other apps.

There Seems to be a lot of feature overlap between the various Skoda apps.

I've just got FL with Colombus unit. Mine does not have the SIM socket. I set my phone up as hotspot to use Connect, apart from Google maps Connect is not much benefit plus it gobbled a load of my data. Have not bothered with it since. I agree there is a lot of overlap between apps. The OneApp is good, when it works, and Apple CarPlay is good. Just a shame you need to plug in via USB.

Thanks have you used the myskoda app?

Yes, been using that as well. To be honest its not brilliant you get a virtual assistant Paul (Personal Assistant U Love) who gives you news & reminders. You get access to car data & manual etc which is useful.

I suggest you download & give them a try, you might find something useful.

I can't get the myskoda or one app to connect.. How did you get them working?

I had a few problems initially. From what I remember I had to connect via USB for them to be recognised. Also I didn't have Siri switched on in my iPhone, that prevented Smartgate connecting which is what the OneApp connects through. The MySkoda app has a guided step by step connection process, think 1st choice was to connect via USB but you can enter VIN to setup.

Can't think what else to suggest. Have you registered a Skoda account yet? You do need to enter this in your phone, sorry if I am stating the obvious!

Evening gents,

Can anyone, more technically proficient than thicko me here, shed any light here?

Is the Skoda Connect app supposed to enable you to view anything other than 'time manager' and 'destinations'? (And at the moment even that seems a bit useless to be honest. By the time a destination loads from my phone when I get in the car, I could quite easily have loaded it into the sat-nav manually. But that's another story.)

The Skoda advert shows some daft salesman flashing lights etc remotely. Am I missing something? Should i be able to check MPG etc? Is there something else I need to download/set-up?

So far I've downloaded and set up both MySkoda and Skoda connect. They both seemed to load up fine on the system.

Apologies, I've got the Columbus system and iphone.  I've tried the hardwire USB connection method, personal hotspot method, bluetooth method and combinations thereof but is the only benefit this time manager/updated traffic conditions thingy?

Any help would be gratefully received :-)

I'm the same, seen the ad where you can flash indicators & sound horn. Think you would need one that has a data sim so the car has an internet connection. The only way to connect is via your phone & thats in your pocket when you are away from the car. The Skoda ad is a bit misleading.

Does anything happen when you select smart link on the car screen?

Just been having another look at manual, have you enabled "data transmission for external devices" see P172

Interestingly it also says it will connect over Wi-Fi, need to have another look at my setup as I can only get it to work on USB.
