Chip tuning

Featured Replies

Can anyone share there thoughts or experiences on chip tuning/tuning box? By for example Racechip.

I don't mean a cheap £10 resistor btw. They start from around £130 up.

Can or will it damage the engine?

Do they really work?

Thanks

Tuning Boxes work, TMC & Bluespark, but you are gambling on no Warranty Claims and having had a box fitted not affection the Warranty because you remove it and untraceable.

Traceable by a Loss Adjuster though since you will be declaring it on your insurance to have it valid.

?

Why not just get a Remap, get the performance and void the warranty?

Hi,

If you did have any issues with insurance for a chip / re-map / tuning box then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.

You have a very good point Awayoffski, sounds like I could be running in to a mine field as I don't want to void warranty, I didn't think of the insurance side you never know warranty could check if need be. Iv already had quite a big warranty claim sorted so far.

I have also found the info on another forum "1.2TSI is bound by a very small turbo and small intercooler that is integrated into the inlet manifold - so its not really up to the task of dealing with the extra heat generated by a turbo running more boost. Getting any more than 90-100kw out of the 1.2TSI is a big ask and will call for a bigger turbo and some sort of solution for the intercooler"

I did have a look under the bonnet after reading this and took a pic of what I think is the turbo...it does look quite small no bigger than a Pringles tube, I don't diss the turbo by the way it works great and is powerful for its size but do you think by boosting high it could kill it? I don't know too much how the tuning boxes work to be honest so your advise and input is much appreciated.

My car is chiptuned for 50.000 km. I don't have any problem yet. But you must know that you don't drive F1 car after chiptuning, so you must be careful with your car.

No hard accelerations before oil temperature come to 80C, no turn off engine right after some hard drive (I wait oil temp to drop under 100C), regular check oil level, shortened service interval (mine is 10.000 km).

Those are some things that you must respect when drive chiptuned car, and don't want to have problems.

Thanks for your response Markkoni.

I love your alloys btw!

Out of interest what brand chip have you used?

Thanks. :) I have had 7 sets of wheels till now. :D

I have used chip from Madness Motorsport, from Bulgaria. They are very good in that job, but I think they are known in southeastern Europe only.
