TSI engine valve cleaning

Featured Replies

What are you experiences, thoughts and where have you been to have this done? I think my engine is overdue and is starting to inherit misfire issues.

Don't know where you're based but I can recommend JKM in Portsmouth.

Not sure if you're considering doing it yourself, but this might help:

I really don't want to do it myself the cost of new gaskets etc. Been pricing it up and Rtech seem really reasonable. I'm going to book in with them.

Im having r tech do mine with a stage 1 map also 645 all in they virtually know everything about these tfsi engines so if youre close to Hinckley id get them to do it

What plugs do you have in - they can be fussy?

NGK good for this engine  - why not try a new set if you don't know history age?

Is there a sensor or something on the inlet manifold you can undue to stick a camera down to look at the valves. There is on my 1.4tsi - not that I've needed to yet.

I believe the spark plugs are good, the majority of Miss fire is from cyclinder 3 and moving The coils and plugs didn't effect this. Hoping the fuel injector clean and carbon removal will solve issues.

Beware snake oil solutions. On a MK II tsi no fuel passes over the inlet valves so any "solution" that is injected through the fuel system doesn't do anything on a direct injection only setup .

Some de-carbon system can inject via inlet manifold - this would hit the valves but results can vary and unless each cylinder is targetted cylinders 2&3 affected more than 1&4

Obviously inlet manifold removal / cleaning (and probably head removal) followed by walnut blasting of vlaves would do the trick

Have you done a compression test?

NB Later 1.8/2.0 on current Skoda's have both port and direct injection(in Europe/UK) - so shouldn't have this issue!
