Insuring 2 Cars For A Short Time

Featured Replies

Getting a new car in 2 weeks but Skoda will take about 4 weeks to come and pick up my Citigo after I terminated the PCP. Would it cost alot more to have 2 insurance policies?.

I have just insured what is essentially a third ( thus spare car pending listing it for sale ) on a temp insurance for 28 days fully comp 2 drivers etc for £50 when I explained I could legal insure it as a ' new ' policy in the owners name with a named second driver fully comp with NCB implied for £32 per month and cancel when I felt like it I was still charged £50 but the insurer ( Admiral multi-car ) waived the £32 odd admin fee to change a car on our existing policy to our recent purchase ( " you have been with us since 2008 so happy to help " ) which I thought was a fair gesture otherwise I'd have taken out a separate ' new ' policy and paid monthly

Rang axa and I can get cover for 30 days for about £90, tried other short term insurance online and been getting quotes about £250.

Firstly if you have terminated the pcp is the car still your responsibility as surely you will no longer be the registered keeper ? Will the car remaind ' taxed ' ?

if the answer to the above do what I did run the details through a comparison site as a new quote new driver no ncb and pay monthly, cancel policy after your responsibility ends ( to coin a phrase simples ........... )

That would require it to be stored 'Offroad' but still covered by insurance by someone.

Will the Dealership supplying the new car not store the old car until collection,

and does it really have to be 4 weeks before the Citigo gets picked up?

Update.. New car has arrived so picking it up Thursday. British car auctions are coming Friday to check over the car and next Friday to pick it up. I can change car insurance online and add temporary  car online with AXA.  The Skoda will have to go on the grass in the front garden for a week.

I was told by Skoda finance the car must be taxed and insured.

Asked Mitsubishi if they could keep the Skoda but no room. Contacted local Skoda dealer to see if they would look after it but I doubt it.

Is there any reason that the cars owners are saying 4 weeks to collect it,

i would have thought they would have wanted away to auction if there was no money coming in from it?

When I rang Skoda finance to pay £700 to cancel my PCP they said it would take 4 weeks to get sorted , rang last Wednesday, today got appointment for the car to be checked over and next Friday will collect car so will take about 2 weeks.

Won't your current insurer just let you keep the old car on the policy for the crossover period? That's quite normal, especially for the short period you're talking about.

best,

Nick
