Guys, anyone tackled their own repairs, looks like it has grounded out in previous ownership or being poorly lifted at some point

Yes...first spray with antirust and later with underbody protection ....and then:

 

use this for the car  

 

or

 

that for your car jack

 

 

It's a little difficult to see exactly however it looks like the seam could be reshaped and a bead of weld run along it before you consider applying cosmetics.
