just a question about steering wheel audio controls

Featured Replies

Hi all, my 2011 octavia vrs has absolutely no audio controls (or any other controls for that matter!) on the steering wheel. I was wandering if i was to change the wheel to another one with controls, would the wiring be there already or would i need to get a wiring loom aswell. My radio is the bolero unit. Thanks for any information!

You would need a different wire inside the steering wheel with the extra plug for the buttons. Ideally, the new wheel would come with this wiring but they are cheap enough to buy separately.

Depending what steering controller you have, that'll probably need replacing too.

Just as a heads up, I think the buttons on the right of the steering wheel will only work with maxidot clusters (shows a image of which doors are open in the centre panel).

Ah right, thank you! Thought i should try to find out this information before attempting to have a go at it and opening up a can of worms so to say! I havent taken the wheel off yet, so i have no idea whats in there, what i do know is that there are no controls on my steering wheel at all for anything. It sounds like it would be better to get a vrs wheel with controls and the wire anyway as i am thinking to put a different head unit with satnav, DAB and DVD functions and some controls on the wheel would be nice. Again thank you for your advice, please tell me your thoughts on my plans.
