KESSY Engine Start/Stop Switch Problem

Featured Replies

Recently, TIBET III's KESSY engine start/stop switch started needing one or two pushes to get the engine started and you naturally find yourself (subconsciously) pressing harder and harder to get the desired result. Sometime previously, I found the door locks being a bit unresponsive for unlocking/unlocking but that was cured with a key fob battery change and the engine start/stop function wasn't affected when the door lock problem was there.

I did the normal searches and it doesn't seem to be a common issue although there were a few reports to be found on the internet searches. The popular train of thought was a removal of the switch and a clean of the switch contacts.

Unlike earlier VAG versions, the Yeti KESSY engine start/switch is not easy to remove to and the lower steering column cover (on which it is mounted) requires the steering wheel to be removed to access the attachment screws.

Not being too keen on disturbing airbag equipped steering wheels, in the end I removed the chrome bezel from around the switch (careful use of a very small flat blade precision screwdriver) which left three holes where the bezel clipped in. A good spraying with an electrical switch cleaner and normal service has been reduced. Ignition now comes on and the engine starts and stops with the lightest of touches, just like it used to (now into 5 days of use since the spraying).

So, if anyone else suffers, it looks like a fairly simple and cheap fix!

Interesting I've noticed that opening the drivers door has become a little hit and miss recently so I'll try a battery change and see if that helps?

So I changed the battery, CR2032 not the CR2025 I thought it was, easy enough.  I've used the car a few times today and the door opening is back to the way it was when I bought the car.  Surprised that the battery has only lasted 10 months?
