High revs bad for my engine?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm curious how people think running my 1.2 HTP at roughly 4K RPM for sustained periods would affect my engine? The engine red-lines at 6K RPM.

I take good care of my car, servicing and replacing coolant/oil regularly. I also only use Shell V-Power or Tesco Momentum petrol, both of which should burn a wee bit cooler due the higher octane rating - perhaps this might mitigate some of the effects of the high revs?

Just wondering as I don't want to significantly affect the car's lifespan!

Cheers!

I doubt that will cause any issues for your engine.

Low revs / labouring due to poor gear choice will cause more issues than higher revs.

Just keep doing what you're doing!

I think the rev range is fine for the engine. The fuel choice is probably a waste though as it is a relatively low powered vehicle so using "Normal" fuel, with the occasional cleanser/additive will most likely have the same effect, at a lower cost. I think Which? magazine held a similar opinion on this.
