Strange indicator behaviour

Featured Replies

Hi,

This is a strange one anyone seen this before, when indicating right the left arrow is lit as well but dim light.

Cheers.

I had similar odd behaviour: when indicating right, it would blink the left indicators instead.  This was intermittent, not all the time, but tended to happen more on cold damp winter days.

I understand it's the contacts inside the stalk switch, which you need to clean.  And I did so the other day...

You need to remove the steering wheel and, assuming you are pre-facelift, drop the control module on the underside of the column.  lift a tab on the left side of the stalk and prise out at the top, pulling towards you.  The rest should be obvious.

You can use electrical contact cleaner (WD40 do a specific cleaner), or I just used Isopropyl cleaning alcohol and a light rub with very fine grit wet&dry paper.

Ours is the facelift. It sounds complicated having to remove steering wheel as well.

I imagine the process is pretty much the same.  Taking the wheel off is not that tricky, you just need to be careful and probably disconnect the battery when removing the airbag.  There are you tube videos on how to do this.

Whether you take it off to clean it or replace it, either way it needs doing.  Good luck

If you don't already have cruise control, now could be the perfect time to fit it if you need to remove it all anyway.  Just a thought....

My instrument cluster has been doing a similar thing. Whilst both indicators come up on the dash, outside the car only the selected indicator light comes up. This leads me to believe that the light is bleeding through the instrument cluster for some reason.
