(ECU) Software recalibration

Featured Replies

Has anyone had experience of the ‘Pendle Performance’ system' They claim it is a fully bespoke tuning service, bragging 200bhp on the 180bhp petrol engine.

I have looked at many claims for remapping/chips and find them all a bit scary.

My car is a virgin 2011vrs which keeps me smiling while driving. I rather thought a bit of reliable remapping might improve performance all round and widen the smiles.:)

Any thoughts on 'Pendle' and the pros & cons of recalibrating software would be appreciated.

In other words should I have my trouble free engine interfered with or just enjoy what I have?

Thanks

Welcome.

Ask what is special about 200 bhp from the 177bhp minimum engine when a Tuning box can get 205 hp plus on Super unleaded and a proven APR Stage 1 over 205BHP.

How much do they want with a before and after Dyno run?

Be sure to fit new plugs before doing a Dyno run and run them for a bit before going, a be sure the car is running OK before the Remap with the new plugs.

200bhp is about right if you know about Pendle then you really should know about ADE tuning in Darwen check my project thread, dyno runs + video in there,

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. I do not think there is anything special about 200bhp, nor indeed 205bhp. Surely it all depends on the individual vehicle age, mileage, general condition etc,.

I notice many, that I would consider fanciful claims on websites regarding bhp.  I liken them to estate agents saying they can get you £++++ more than anyone else - 6 months down the line you still have the 'For Sale' sign up.

Surely what's important is % increase from whatever the baseline is. If my particular 2011 VRS has a starting point and showing of 173bhp would then 200bhp be a bit more acceptable?

What I liked about 'Pendle' was their pre Dyno run realism, given the info on my particular car.

Thanks for the help. I am looking forward to getting through your 33,333 posts (very impressive)

Dear Kobayashi,

Thanks for the reply. ADE Tuning looks great. Their website is very informative - not afraid to quote prices.

Unfortunately, unless you can get them to open a branch in Cornwall, it would be a non starter.

Love your project thread - lots of goodies.

I was interested to see your VRS showing 173bhp before, then 193bhp after mapping - that's about 11.5% increase. I would be happy with that.

This was the point I was trying to make to Awayoffski about my 200bhp from Pendle. If you had got 200bhp you would have found that quite special, I'm sure.

I think I put my reply to Awayoffski in the wrong place. Don't know if he, or indeed you can read it. I will eventually get the hang of the forum.

Thanks again

Reason i replied I thought you were 'up north' and talking about this Pendle Performance http://www.pendleperformance.com/

Pendle you know is a great big hill in Lancashire!

Im not sure if the company you are talking about is related to it or not, or they have just used part of their name! I guess you would have to dig around and find out...

I Just searched another one so you must be talking about TH Performance (Pendle Performance Main Agent)?

https://en-gb.facebook.com/pg/THPerformance/about/?ref=page_internal

If you do a map then add an intake first, i gained another 8.4BHP (maybe 2BHP of that was  switching to Shell Nitro Fuel)  200BHP was a nice target to get to,

The tuner man at ADE rightly pointed out on the third Dyno (after another month passed and fitting an intake) it would have been better to put the intake on first , then map, not map then add intake.

So it should really be 205-210BHP if they were to tweak it but i decided to leave it at 201.8bhp

Anyway have fun modding

Sorry, not much help but I think ADE are fantastic, work magic on the 1.6 CR engines also!

No probs Kobayashi - One of the joys of Cornwall in some ways is the lack of almost everything, leaving a rather limited choice.

Pendle have agents around the Country - I have one 4 miles away Called 'Collins' - they appear to be quite knowledgeable.

Pendle website - http://www.pendleperformance.com/index.php   Collins website http://collinsofprobus.com/

Very useful info on the 'Intake'- thanks

I guess I should really admit that I find the whole business of remapping quite intimidating, although very interesting. My dearly beloved (VRS that is) gives me great pleasure and trouble free motoring, which makes me hesitate. I'm sure once I dip my toe in I will be hooked.

I have been using Tesco momentum 99 octane (great price). Do you think it worthwhile switching to Shell?

Cheers

IMO not worth switching to Shell V-Power Nitro + 99 octane.  No benefit paying 5 pence a litre more than Monentum 99.

Royal Dutch Shell & Greenergy that import the base fuel share their import and storage facilities,

http://greenergy.com/uk/independent

Greenergy Produces Tesco Momentum 99 Minimum 99 octane and show the formulation

where as RDS do not show what the Detergent Package is, but then it is likely as the Momentum Package and a 1.4TSI Twincharger wants the octane not the Detergents.

Personally i avoid Shell V-Power Nitro+ as i trust the Tesco Momentum 99 i get up north and it is only £2.25 a tank more than 95 unleaded from Tesco.

Often the 99 octane is the minimum and sometimes it exceeds this and is as nice as Continental European 100 / 100+ ron.

http://revotechnik.com/support/technical/14tsi-twincharger-engine-issues

With engines that can suffer with Bore Wash it is nice when you can get Super Unleaded without Detergents like Hiperflo 250 102ron,

but since that costs double Tesco Momentum is as good as it comes in the UK from Filling station pumps.

The drive to shell is a joyous incline uphill blast - and i love the large forecourt / costa coffee + tyre pressure things.

Tesco on the otherhand is in middle of roundabout & traffic light hell where i live, + the sh*tty small forecourt  where d*ckheads cant park so you can fit 2 vehicles between the pumps. (Pump rage)

Each to their own on fuel choice but the factors above make it worth paying more for me.

All good reasons.

My reason is a like for ethanol, the more the better when trying to get the best out of a Twincharger.

I would pay the Shell V-Power Nitro + price for Tesco Momentum 99 if it cost the same, i would actually pay more for it.  Based on the tale of the Dyno and a Switchable map.

Maybe buy 25 litres of Hiperflo 250 for £77 sometime and see how nice that makes one Stage 1 or 2 go.

(Edit £71 now.)

I understand your thinking - however as well as the price thing (presently shell top grade price a ridiculous £1.27 per Litre - local garage) there is also a principle involved. In Cornwall especially July & August, they simply rip-off the visitors, and in turn screw the locals.

by heavily inflating prices that are aIready high. I would no more fly in the air than be a party to Shells cynical ploy.

Take care

I agree - Momentum has not let me down in anyway. Lets give Tesco the business. We should look after those who look after us.

I'm intrigued "The tale of the dyno and a switchable map"

I might give Hiperflo a pass - sounds scary.

Thanks
