Replacement dash pod glass

Featured Replies

Has any one ever replaced the instrument panel glass on a mk3 octavia? Any help would be much appreciated. I was cleaning the car today and have put a load of scratches on the glass.

What you need mate is xerapol, this stuff is amazing and will make your plastic look like new. I had exactly what your describing on my mk3 instrument panel and this made it like new. You can't buy just the perspex cover you need to buy the whole instrument panel at £800 + vat.

Xerapol will cost you £10 and comes in a small green tube

How did you manage to scratch it up?

I ask partly out of interest and partly so that I don't accidentally end up doing it myself :)

Using a 10 quid microfiber cloth, the best you can buy, apparently. Its for optics. Using the best ammonia free cleaner, for optics. Lightly wiping the surface i noticed faint lines, so i gently rubed harder. More lines. Its crap quality acrylic its realy soft. Leave well alone if possible

Thanks for the advice, will use an air duster.

I wish you well in fixing it :)

EDIT*

On another note your ammonia free cleaner I note is for optics; the stuff I use in work for cleaning a microscope if someone has left it messy (usually messy with oil) contains xylene, and if I can't find that it wouldn't be the first time I have used benzene and if I am really stuck have used chloroform (not as good as the others).

If your optics cleaner contains xylene, benzene it may not be too friendly to the plastic; I know I have accidentally melted a plastic test tube before with chloroform.  Theyre great for cleaning glass optics, wouldnt use them on plastic.  Does your optic solution specify what's in it?

I bought the kit for cleaning monitors, and plastic optics. I used a realy good cloth too.  On the bottle it says alcohol and amonia free. Hopfully the marks will come out.

The marks will come out trust me with the xerapol, it's specifically for this purpose.
